I own a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 6 cylinder engine. Whenever the gas tank is 1/4 full or below, the engine stalls out completely when I make a left turn. It appears that because the gasoline in the tank is pushed to the right, the fuel intake is either blocked or is unable to access the fuel. It appears to me to be a design defect because I have talked to other owners who have the same problem. This is extremely dangerous. This vehicle (and, I believe, all in its class) have power steering, power brakes, etc. To lose power in the middle of a turn when the vehicle is in motion is to lose control. I have not had an accident. I am terribly afraid that I will.

Fuel sensor was replaced in 1997 and May 2001, and once again. Fuel was not feeding through lines, causing vehicle to hesitate. Vehicle came out repair shop, and in rain 2 days later, vehicle almost came to a stop at 60-65mph. Consumer took it back, and techinician test drove vehicle with consumer noting the problems. June 8, dealer kept it for a week, and problem was still there.

Driving up a very steep hill at night. Car starts to buck wildly, loose power, RPM goes constantly from 300 to 2000. Seems fuel starved. Over hill, engine seems to run fine. Then on highway at 70 mph, engine shuts itself off, twice within half hour. Dealer says computer chip and replaces, but not fixed. Then says fuel pump. Replaces. Now six weeks later, same thing happening to car. Not fuel gauge problem, as tank 3/4 full.

Fuel sending unit failed while turning at a very busy intersection. This caused the vehicle to stall which potentially could of caused a fatality. Jeep replaced the unit and we have not had a problem since. This vehicle always leaks fuel when filled despite not being "topped off". I will awaken in the morning to a puddle of gas under the car. I feel that my garage may explode one day. These are two very serious problems relating safety. Overall, this vehicle has poor attention paid to detail. I have had many more problems with this vehicle compared to the entire life of my used Acura with 120,000 miles.
