Roaring sound in rear end started during drive to Florida, dealer replaced both rear inboard and outboard axle bearings. 3000 miles later roaring sound is back and now deal needs to install new axles and same bearings.
This is the second bearing failure for my vehicle. I also personally know of 3 other vehicle owners who are or have experienced the same bearing failure in their Jeep.
Front brakes replaced 1 year ago then received recall, winshield washer motor failed, power windows failed. Poor braking and vibration in pedal scraping noise from back end - rear bearings, differential, brakes and rotors need replacement.
Rear end bearing noises, dealer says they have been having problems with them and they now just prefer to replace the whole rear end instead of trying to rebuild them. I asked them if they could just replace the bearings, and they replied that it would be cheaper and more effective to just throw a whole new rear-end in. Expensive and time consuming. I am going to have a private mechanic look at it in the next day or so.
While driving on the highway it sounded like a grinding noise in the rear. Took it to a local mechanic, and was told that rear axle bearings needed to be replaced.
Rear differential side bearings were replaced 18 months ago. Bearings are roaring and need replacement again. Could lockup rear wheels upon total failure and cause loss of control.
