This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
There has been no accident- the ABS brake light comes on at infrequent times, took to dealer (adams Jeep- annapolis, md) they said cab unit is bad (an electronic control box) $700 to repair, we did not have it repaired, I feel that this type of unit should not fail and wanted to check into recalls, dealer said there are not any on this repair. Brakes seem to work as normal otherwise. Should this safety item be looked into? please address all contact to matt schaaf- as I handle all the maintenance on the vehile for donald. Ps- your website is a great source, thank you. Matt
When applying brakes vehicle will shake violently. Brake pads are not wearning out, but rotors keep failing. Rotors have been replaced 4 times, defect keeps reoccurring.
While going around a curve at 40 in a 50mile zone applied brakes and vehicle started to skid. Then, consumer lost control of vehicle, and it was totalled.
Vehicle is a part of manufacturer's recall 10578. However, and is experiencing the same problems on both rear brakes. Consumer has taken vehicle to dealer on numerous occasions, but dealer responds that it is "wear and tear". consumer has had problems with all four brakes since she bought vehicle in 1996.
I have never had brake problems with any other vehicle. This problem started out with only 11000 miles and a clicking noise when brakes were engaged. The pads and rotors were replaced. Then again at around 18,000 miles the pads were woren, and rotors replaced again, I believe. I can not find the receipt for that visit. Then at 25,000 miles pad were again put on and rotors turned. At 28,000 rotors vibrate and new ones put on. Now at 33,000 miles they are again vibrating. There is definitely a defect in this mechanism and it needs to be addressed.
Within 50,000 miles of wear all four rotors were replaced due to corrosion and pitting. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under manufacturer's recall due to VIN.
After vehicle was parked for a week and without starting the engine, brakes did not work properly when applied. Vehicle did not stop, and emergency brakes had to be applied. Found that left reare brake pad had separated from its metal support.
I have had the following failures: Fuel guage/ brakes (3) times/engine mount, and water pump, brought the vehicle in (5) times before they fixed the transmission, rear windshield wipers quit working, and then restarted. Also cd player died. Is this a lemon?
Apparently, there was a recall of certain 1997 vehicles for the fuel sending unit and the brake system has had the power booster replaced another time by the previous owner. Recall 97V194000.002.
I've had the radio replaced 11/1998, a transmission filter replace 02/1998, and the transmission clutches replaced 03/1999, brake rotars need replacing, now I have lost all dash lights, windshield wipers, gas tank stays on empty, and hasastation in transmission failing again, not under warrenty will not service anymore, most failures started at 38,000 miles. Warrenty over at 36,000.
Rear differential pinion and carrier bearings failed at 12,000 miles. Replaced under warranty. Failed a second time at 59,000 miles, same problem. Chrysler refuses to repair. Ac evaporator corroding again. Replaced once under warranty, problem has returned. ABS motor control circuit has failed, no ABS.
Braking system malfunctioned which may caus eextende dstopping distance. Also, brake rotors warped. However, this had not affected the brake pads. Delaer replaced front rotors twice every 20,000 miles.
Front brake rotors get hot and warped every 15-20,000 miles which caused extended stopping distance, and may result in a crash. Dealer turned and replaced rotors 3 times.
Failure of the front brake rotors. Began with brake pulsation. Rotors completely warped. Brake pads worn. Both replaced at owner's expense $456.86. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge problem. Chrysler file/case # 5801654. Owner told not covered under original warranty even though service bulletin exists SB980828050398!!! Chrysler will not cover any expense for repair. Owner spoke with Chrysler customer service 3 times in the same day. Owner was told over and over that pads and rotors are only covered up to 12,000 miles. Owner believes that the problem existed due to defective original manufacturer's parts.
