This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Recall 98 V 006 000/temporary space saver: Front axle overheated due to temporary spare tire. Manufacturer was notified, and informed consumer that this vehicle was not covered under that recall. Consumer found recall 98V006, but his vehicle was not included. Vent tube from the front differential was spiiting burning oil into the engine compartment.
Great weather, smooth road, a bottom of a hill, left rear axle broke at 60 mph causing the vehicle to spin and then roll. Left rear wheel totally separated from vehicle. Vehicle was a total loss after rolling and landing upside down.
Since the brake disc rotor was recalled on my car I wondered whether any other owners had a problem with the rusting of front axle joints and calipers hanging up. Thank you!
Multiple rear axle problems, each diagnosed by owner prior to failure. (the dealer didn't want to admit there was a problem) this vehicle has averaged one new rear axle every year, including this year which I am waiting on parts. The engine's faulty mass airflow sensor quit operation while driving down the rocky mountains on some switchback roads. The engine abrubtly quit running, causing the vehicle to loose steering and braking control. Only quick thinking by using the parking brake saved the four people in the vehicle from eminent death. The engine reluctantly restarted after a few seconds and we continued down the mountains. However, a few minutes later the engine died without warning for a second time and we were forced to hold the Jeep on the mountainside with the parking brake engaged. I can't believe no one has died from this vehicle! this situation has occured on two separate trips, approximately one year apart, after reprogramming the engine management computer, and replacing the mass airflow sensor and remapping the engine management computer for a second time. For the first two years I owned this vehicle, it was in the shop over 36 times for warranty related repairs. What a piece of junk!( dot number: Tire size: P225/65R16 )
Sunroof rusted out- replaced by dealer, automatic door locks failed and vinyl paneling peeled- both thing replaced by dealer. Check engine light came on for no reason- sensor replaced twice by dealer.
When turning the wheel left or right there is a grinding noise toward the front underbody. Taken to dealership 3 to 4 times for this problem. The last time, the dealership replaced the drivetrain, front axle and brakes. Consumer still experiencing a minor problem.
Driving at approximately 60 mph the axle will begin to vibrate, started to rattle, make noise, dealer replaced barring in front axle, defect is still occurring.
