It turns out that the front door are so heavy that the hinges wear out and the only fix is to replace the whole door. I let mine go for so long that the latching mechanism broke apart from the door and I could no longer close the door. I'm surprised that no one has come up with a repair kit like a re-sleeve or bushing and pin kit for those hinges.
Update from Nov 30, 2010: I ended up replacing the whole door off a junkyard vehicle.
