Frustrating because my buddy (a mechanic ) was driving it to his place to troubleshoot why you could be just driving down the road and it would quit running....let it sit for a while and then it would start up again. Fuel injection pressure would drop and then make the car stop because the little clip on either side of the fuel filter had cracked and was letting fuel spray out in a fine mist... once you stopped and turned it off, the process would start all over again. Could not tell it was leaking because it was a fine mist..so no puddle on the ground. This particular day, I guess it cracked the clip just enough to mist it on to the hot muffler pipe and woof!!! Fortunately my buddy got the fire extinquisher I carry in my vehicles out and put the fire out quickly. It ruined some wiring in the rear end of the vehicle and I had to replace the emergency brake cables to the rear wheels...and the gas tank and a new tank pump...burned all those wires. Talked to Jeep and they were like no... sorry not our problem. I said ok, so why do you not at least put out a bulletin to owners to replace those fuel filter line clips at oh say the 10 year point. Oh...good idea....never heard another word from them. This was a great Jeep too...never gave me any trouble...only had to replace a radiator once and an alternator...until this happened......don't plan on owning another one soon....nobody got hurt so I was able to lick my wounds, get it fixed and drive on...... jeep caught on fire

My husband was driving our Jeep on freeway about 65 MPH and smelt gas so he stated pulling over to the side of the freeway, he got out and could tell there was a fire under the hood but was not able to open the hood with out getting burned. Police officer pulled up and called the fire department to put out the fire. Jeep was complete loss to the fire. Tow truck took it away. Got home opened the mail saw the recall on the vehicle. Only had liability insurance on it. Now I have to go pay the tow company for the tow. Will contact CarSafe hotline tomorrow to see what we should do and if an investigation can be done.
