This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the driver side door suddenly became unsecured. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The front passenger side door also experienced the exact failure. In addition, while parked on an incline, the vehicle would erroneously move down the incline. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed that the parking function within the transmission failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that while driving, the interior headliner would become unsecured. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The front doors on this vehicle model are defective!!!! the metal holding the door latch is defect / weak causing the latch to tear away from the sheetmetal and recess inside the door. The door opens while turning as slowly as 5 mph; the driver side door will no longer latch closed nor will the lock engage and secure the door. On 3/3/2014 while driving my daughter to school, this incident happened to us. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic and I didn't lose control of the vehicle. What did happen was I had to over-extend my left shoulder to grab the driver's door after it flung open, spraining my shoulder. To date I have randomly spoken with 12 other Jeep owners of the same model, in ulster county, NY; all having the same defect in either the driver or passenger front door of this model vehicle. This is a serious safety hazard that needs to be recognized and repaired by Jeep! I have spoken to the local Jeep dealer and he acknowledged this year is flawed by design in this area, & was specifically re-designed due to customer complaints.
Front driver's side door is becoming increasingly harder to close or open, started Jan 2002, now door will not stay closed. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer stated that it was a design flaw and wants to charge for a new door and paint job.
Consumer states that rear driver's side door is becoming increasingly harder to close or open. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer stated that it was a design flaw.
