The radio/navigation system seems to have a mind of it's own. First, the radio screen has been slowly separating from the radio, which hasn't affected the use of the touch screen usage. It is about half way separated. All of a sudden we find the unit changing our radio stations using our presets and manually entering in digits; it scrolls through the air conditioning vent options and stops on any one of them randomly; it has selected the uconnect app trying to load some application that isn't loaded; it has selected to turn on the heated steering wheel; it has selected to turn on either seat's heater and then off again, then both, etc.; it has selected the navigation and routed to different locations and started the navigation all on it's own; on one drive, while in motion, this summer when 100 deg outside, it has turned the heater all the way up and then locked the screen so we couldn't change it back. On this one, it nearly caused an accident! my has had a stroke before and can't take the heat. When it wouldn't let her change it back to air conditioning she nearly passed out trying to get out of traffic and to the side of the road. It wouldn't even let her use the manual knobs to control the air conditioning. They were locked. Even when turning car off and then back on didn't help initially. It took 3 times until it let her adjust it. These happenings are random; some happening more than others and sometimes not at all. It happens at any point, in motion or sitting still; city, highway, turning, straight; it doesn't matter to it. This happens at least daily and will start and stop at random times. Most of the time it doesn't stop until you cut the car off. This is a safety issue in so many ways. I have videos that shows this, but can't upload a video.

A pebble smaller than a pea went through the grill and put a whole in the ac /defrost compressor which also houses the transmission coolant costing over $ 600 to replace. Very cheap material to be punctured by a tiny pebble and very poor design to leave such a fragile part unprotected.

We've experienced random stalling and excess oil consumption. We've brought to dealer under the warranty - they initially confirmed excess oil consumption but then pulled back on it. They are 'unable to replicate' the random stalling and therefore won't address even though it's a tremendous safety risk as it happens while the vehicle is in motion on a public roadway. Emails and service records can be provided upon request. Most recent stall date provided below.

While driving I got a code on the car dash that read something like 'unable to drive' then as turning the bend in road at 20/25mph the car started pulling to left steering the wheel became too hard and I heard a snap noise turns out my ball joint snapped on the Jeep! over 5000 in damage and it was not due to impact! it snapped clean off then ended up causing my to swop a parked car. Thankfully wasn't on highway your 2017 compasses have severe electrical issues the car doesn't go right away when shifted to desired gear and on top of it all your ball joints are faulty! claim responsibility and recall this I've seen a lot of open source reporting of the same issue. Please do not wait until a mortality occurs for you to do something! assemble these care correctly!!! I will not be buying or driving another Jeep again the new model compasses aren't safe for anyone. Oddly prior to the accident the car has been at jim shorkey dealership every 2 months or so for some repair from sway bars to tire rods and everything else. Less than 26,000 miles on it. Scheduled an appt to take it to the dealer last Thursday the appointment was scheduled for Tuesday 3/17 but the accident ended up occurring 3/14... only if the dealer had let me bring it sooner this wouldn't have happened.

I purchased a 2017 Jeep Compass in December 2019, from a major nationwide rental Agency, with a 36 month warranty. I was driving the vehicle at 530am, in darkness, at 65 mph in a straight direction, in the middle lane of a major highway, when the engine abruptly shut off. I was able to make to to the shoulder of the road, but with difficulty because the power steering had stopped working as well. The vehicle would not restart and had to be towed to a Jeep dealership, where the warranty would not cover the full repair.

The start/stop feature causes my car to stall. The emergency brake would automatically get enabled and I basically can't get my car to move until I put my car in park, disable to the emergency brake and turn my car on and off. This feature is such an inconvenience due to the chance of stalling at every stop light/intersection. This increases the chances of getting rear ended. In addition, today my front collision warning + brakes got activated while I was in motion without anything in front of me. Again, another possibility of getting rear ended.

I had a safety issue with my 2017 Jeep Compass that I am currently leasing. The car would stop and shut down on its own without warning or any lights turning on. It had to do with the parking brake as well. When I brought it to the North haven, ct dealership to get fixed, they said they were unable to fix it and had to contact Chrysler. Chrysler told them what to do. The dealership did as told and it resolved the issue--something about the battery. When I was informed about what happened, I asked why there was no warning or check engine light going off alerting me that something was not right. The person at the dealership said 'well once you notice things aren't working well, then it's probably a battery issue. Bring it back in.' How is this acceptable" there is no warning that my car is going to just stop as I am driving. I just have to wait until other things go wrong to determine if it is maybe a battery issue? that is unheard of. The dealership had my car for almost a week, did not give me a loaner, but said I could rent a car at a low cost. Rent a car? I am not going to pay money for a car when mine is still under warranty. And when asked if there was a recall regarding this issue, the person at the dealership said 'no, they only do recalls when it is a safety issue.' So when my Jeep automatically shut down on a road with a speed limit of 55, that's not a safety issue" I am completely unsatisfied with my experience resolving this issue, and to be honest, I cannot say that it is resolved because there will be no warning as to whether or not it is going to happen again. The product is not safe apparently because there is no indication as to when the battery needed to be serviced. When I went to the dealership and requested safer car, the manager said they could not do anything, accepting the fact that I drive an unsafe car.

2 times the same incident occurred 6 months apart, once in June 2019 mileage 22046 and once in December 2019 mileage 28423. Bought the car brand new in 2017. Oil is dissappearing!! the oil pressure low light will flash on - there is a loss of power - while driving - no warning! then the light will go off. Drive to oil change business to have them check the oil level and the Jeep will be 3 to 3.5 quarts low. No leak present or oil seen. Engine seems to slip while driving before this happens.

I bought my car in 2018 brand new with less than 10 miles. In the first few months, it required a brand new radio system and rear camera replacement. In some months following that, I have had my car stop on me while driving, approximately 4-5 times with only excuses as to why the car would unsafely do this. First time was an update that needed to be done. Second time was the keyfob battery but accused it of being lack of oil changes (I don't need to go to the dealership for oil changes). Next, was no explanation at all. Last was yesterday when it died twice in one day in the middle of the road. They called to let me know that it probably is because my oil is 3/4 way depleted even though I had an oil change done less than 3K miles ago. Their suggestion is that I return every 500 miles so they can top me off if the oil seems to be an issue. These are thankfully in less busy streets mostly driving straight but once while turning. Once included an error code that I was told was an electrical system error but it didnt register. I have pictures and videos on my phone from the incidents. I have also written to the CEO of Jeep, attorney general and will be contacting an attorney from an article I found on this issue from April of 2019. My photos and videos will not send and upload.

While at a red light, the Compass went into auto stop. When my foot released the brake, the car shuttered, a light appeared and it appeared to stall. I could not accelerate and had to brake, park the vehicle, turn it off and back on (in the middle of a busy intersection). The next morning, while driving on the expresswayn the vehicle did not appear affected, but a different light came on indicating collision warning was turned off. It did not go off until the car was turned off and did not appear to pop back up. Later that same day, while driving on the expressway with cruise control going about 76 mph in the left hand lane, the vehicle shuttered, and appeared to stall. The same light turned on. I was able to coast the vehicle to the right hand shoulder, then it off and turn it back on. Pictures of the lights have been included.

After coming to complete stop, car engine shuts off due to start/stop system. When releasing break car cannot start back up, all lights turn on, emergency break is automatically enabled and stalls. I have to put the car in park, turn off (even though engine is not running) and turn back on and remove the emergency break before I can accelerate. This has happened on busy intersections and is a big safety hazard. I have taken vehicle to dealership and they stated the battery was bad. Battery was replaced but the issue is now more frequent.

2017 Jeep Compass limited has experienced 5 episodes of stalling after coming to a stop. Vehicle is equipped with the auto stop/start feature and each time the auto stop/start turns back on, just as the vehicle begins to accelerate, the vehicle stalls out and shuts off. The vehicle is unable to be immediately turned back on and moved to safety. This has occurred 5 times on busy roads causing a life safety hazard. On the 4th time this occurred a mechanic stated it was due to low oil. An oil change was conducted and a week later the 5th stalling episode occurred, this time in the middle of a busy state road intersection during rush hour. Fortunately any injury/accident has been avoided, however these incidents could easily lead to severe injury or even death. A quick internet search shows extensive similar reports about this particular vehicle.

When making left or right turns, it goes into 4WD. Doesn't matter if you're on the roadway or turning into a parking spot or even backing up. Feels like something grabbing in either the front or back can't really tell. Makes grinding noise. Took back to the dealer twice now and they also say it was the 4WD that they can't fix anything because Jeep knows about the problem and we have to wait for Jeep to do a recall. It gets worse every day. They say they can not give us a paper because of waiting on the recall. Only had this car for 3 months and nobody wants to fix the problem.
