Just purchased this vehicle less than a week ago and have already experienced TIPM failure that left us with no signal/brake lights, wipers coming on intermittently in the off position, hazard lights not working, heated seats and dash components not working. Quickly learning that this is a very well known issue with Chrysler and I am wondering why there has not been some type of recall. Manufactures Warranty only covers this unit for 3 years/60,000 Kms, so we don't even have that option.
There are some VERY dangerous risks of a faulty TIPM, up to and including air bag failure that can cause the air bags to deploy without warning or not deploy in the event of a collision, can cause the fuel pump to burn out, resulting in the vehicle to suddenly stop running. Not exactly confidence building information considering we travel a 400 series highway in order to commute. The TIPM is essentially the "brains" that operate the electrical functioning of the entire vehicle.
We worked very hard to earn enough money to buy this vehicle and now within the first week we are dealing with a catastrophic failure. This vehicle was just inspected and deemed safe for operation, yet it is anything but safe!! My local Jeep/Chrysler dealership was less than helpful, not that it is their fault. I just feel like Chrysler needs to be taken to task on this matter, considering the potential for bad things to happen.
