Right after we bought the car we went to the Black Hills, SD. Charting our mpg we avg'd 18-20 using cruise control most of the time. When we got back we went to complain to our dealer, Brookdale Chrysler Jeep. We showed them our records and tabulations. We were told they have never had any complaints and our poor mpg must be due to our driving habits. When I told them we were told we would be getting close to 30mpg by the salesman (he said he had a similar vehicle and was getting almost 30mpg), they said after the first oil change the engine would be "broken in" and it would get better. Going through the winter we were getting 12-14mpg. As this is a 4 cyl. engine, we were very upset and were told we must be driving in 4 wheel drive! They hooked up to their computer and said it is running just fine and did not see any indication we were using 4 wheel drive. I've been to the dealer a minimum of 5 times with my mileage and gallons of gas documentation. I dropped off the vehicle for them to run it a couple of days to get their computations. They only used less than 1 gallon of gas and computed their mpg at 33! We now have just over 10,000 miles and we are using another dealer to see if they can find the solution to the problem, so as we head to Idaho (on the road) we are logging mileage and gallons of fuel again. Today's mpg is 19 (July 2. 2014. I cannot understand why EVERY Jeep owner I have talked to has similar complaints and Chrysler and it's dealers have NEVER heard of this complaint. I am in my late 60's and my wife in her mid 60's. We have obviously had MANY vehicles! THIS IS THE VERY EPITOME OF WHY THE PUBLIC DOESN'T TRUST AUTO MANUFACTURERS ANY MORE THAN POLITICIANS! I have had an offer from Chrysler of $5,000 toward purchase of another vehicle. Of course I would have more money out of my pocket also and as one dealer put it "we can't guarantee you'll be getting any better mpg"! Maybe a good attorney could get a joint lawsuit together to get satisfaction to all of us who are "in the same boat"?
