I slowed sown to a stop sign it started to spit and sputter. I tried to proceed though intersection and lost power I had it floored and it barely moved lights were flashing throttle control light, traction lights and check engine light and the throttle control was beeping. I pull over shut car off and restarted it. The check engine light was still on but other lights shut off. I proceeded slowly seemed to drive fine for awhile. The 20 miles later it does this again. This time in traffic almost causing a accident. I again pull over tried to shut it off again it wouldn't fix so I drove to a near by parking lot turned it off and waited for help.

When my husband got there and re-started it the check engine light was on but other lights went off. He drove it home and it didn't do it again. He got home put it on code reader and then cleared the code. We called dealer and dropped it off they couldn't get it to do it so they had use drive it to see if it came back on. It was fine for awhile (2wks maybe). Then does it again this time I was come down a hill by my house. (scary no power and stuff coming down a hill by the way). My husband was able to see the lights as they were still on he drove it and saw what it was doing.

I took it in the next day and they have had it since trying to get it to do it while the computer was on the car. Luckily they have diagnosed it successfully took then a few weeks. It is the Throttle control unit i believe. they are working on getting it approved to fix now through my extended warranty but i do not know if it will be covered. looking online it could be around $500 or more to replace.

I really think Jeep needs to recall this part before someone really gets hurt!!! They should refund us for out of pocket costs as well!!!!!! Come on JEEP do right by us PLEASE!!!!

Update from Apr 15, 2019: Was the throttle body took them along time to diagnosis but they finally caught it doing it on the diagnostic computer. Takes patience but seems this is a common problem with this model car. I dont know the total cost I had a extended warranty so I had to pay a copayment. The shop i took it to was great!!! But it is a real pain to figure out n costly if you dont have coverage.

Compass Latitude 2.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 75,000 miles

When this part went it left most of the systems not working. It failed just as I started down an icy steep hill. We brought it to dealership because they said it should be warrantied, after we got it there they told us it was not. I feel this is a defective part, not something that should fail at less then 3 years old.
