I have been trying to get in contact with bensons Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in greer SC since the spring of 2019 about recalls on my Jeep. Finally, my dad decided to just call Chrysler and they sent us to the big O which is in greenville SC the instructed us they would order the parts and call us when they come in. It has been about 7 months since we called them in either June or July about this and since it is airbags and seatbelts we are very concerned with my safety if I was to get into a wreck.
The contact owned a 2013 Jeep Compass. While driving approximately 45 mph, the driver saw flames in the rearview mirror. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver saw flames underneath the hood. The driver attempted to open the hood, but was unable to do so. The fire department was called, but before they arrived, there was a loud explosion and the vehicle became momentarily engulfed in flames. The vehicle was totaled and the remnants were towed to a tow yard. A fire report was filed. There were no injuries reported. The dealer was contacted (California motors, santa ana, ca, 714-515-6100) and stated that there was no recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that an investigator would be sent out, but no one showed up. Consumer stated Jeep/Chrysler instead of taking responsiblity for a malfunction on the 2013 Jeep Compass that engulfed in flame and could have trapped my son inside after the doors wouldn't open as also effected my credit amongst the other problems caused by the event. Entered bank parking to use atm machine, at that time when stepped on brake to stop the car, it accelerated like someone was stepping on gas pedal. At that time I tried to stop the car by shifting into another gear and also tried pulling key out of the ignition. At that time knew I had to get car stopped without hurting anyone, so there was a wooded area behind bank, I ran car into area that had huge rocks which I ran over and therefore hit a tree head on to stop my car. The car was still running would not shut off and would not still charge gears or car would not shut off and the air bags did not deploy (any of them). Not sure if this is a brake, engine, transmission, computer, air bag, or a combination problem.
