Compass Sport Utility 4.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

So I just bought this car 4 days ago and I got it for 6 thousand. Pretty good deal right? I got it from a private person. So literally 3 days after I get it my husband is driving home from work and accelerating fast and the car jerks When shift from 4th to 5th gear. I told him to get home and let me drive it because I have a little mechanic background. So I take it on the highway driving nice and easy and nothing happens, when I exit and get back on the highway I gun it and it jerks. The only thing I can think of is the car needs transmission fluid, so I take it to Jiffy Lube who can do nothing because its a sealed transmission, so I have to take it to a mechanic. As I was leaving Jiffy Lube the girl working told me she heard there are lots of transmission problems with 2012 Jeep Compasses, so now I'm super pissed.

Compass 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 59,256 miles

I bought the car used and the dealer failed to tell me anything about it. I would have never bought it had I known it had a CVT in it, as I had been advised about their problems. The after having it from Oct to Aug the following year, it overheated and I had to pull over and wait until it cooled off. The dealer mechanic's said there was nothing really wrong, it had just disintegrated the fluid. I said well it didn't do it on just one occasion. The car was used when I bought it and 32+ thousand miles and they never serviced it after it was traded in. I had to pay $200.00, which I think was very unfair. Now less that a year later, the same transmission is slipping when I drive the car in the heat. I live in Las Vegas, the temps are over 100 degrees for months. Whoever designed this transmission and sold the concept to Chrysler must be long gone, as I am sure they have lost money having all the problems that it has and in as many cars that have it in them. I want a NEW Transmission, hopefully they have decided to make one that is not plastic and actually has gears in it.

Compass

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

In March of 2016, I went to DuPage Dodge & Jeep in Glendale Heights, IL. I was still under my extended warranty at the time. Explained how whenever I go to accelerate from being at a stop that the car would start jerking, as if it was misfiring. Just didn't want to go and how it was also revving high at the same time. Jeep looked at it and told me that I needed a new transmission. This was at 99,000 miles.

Now forward 7 months later. It's doing it again. My local mechanic who has been working on my parents cars for years tells me the same thing when he goes to change the oil. Its the Trans. I asked him straight out if a tune up would help and he said it would only band aid the problem. That eventually, I would need a new one.

Now, the service dept. at Jeep was great when I spoke on the phone with them. They even said that I should have either a 2 year, or 3 year warranty on the transmission that they built in which was a huge relief. But here is the problem I have with this, why are we getting "Remanufactured/re-built" equipment??? We pay an arm and a leg for this cars on top of the warranties. Why am I not getting new equipment?? That's what is irking me. But still, 2 transmissions for a Jeep Compass in less than a year?? This is not including the weird moaning sound when ever I turn left and the violent jerking when I'm slowing down (I have brand new brake pads and rotors).

I'm starting to re-think as to why I bought a Jeep. I never had this many problems with my Pontiac Grand Prix and that car was a supercharged engine that had 200,000 miles on it. Jeep, word of advise, stop putting CRAPPY equipment in these cars just to make a quick buck. Lets see how DuPage Jeep does after I bring the car back in on Tuesday.
