I am a disabled about to be 70 yrs old senior barely getting by on an income of $680 per month from social security and I bought this jeep 2 yrs ago and I am still paying $215 a month and have only paid off half of the loan to purchase this Jeep. I now have no transportation to any doctor appts, pharmacy pick ups, or food shopping until I can get this fixed. They want $2000.00 to fix the TIPM and there is NO way around not fixing it as I cannot sell a car that is not in working condition nor would I be able to afford the loan which I am still paying each month.
I really need help as I am in the process of begging for help to come up with the money to pay for this to be fixed and honestly this should have NEVER happened on a jeep that I have barely had for 2 years. From what I understand now this seems to be a common issue on the Jeep Compass and they should NOT BE allowed to sell this Jeep knowing the issues that it has and the severe cost of repair. This is horrific and no normal human can afford to pay this amount of repair without it costing them not being able to afford any food or pay any other bills just to get it fixed. My income does not cover things of this magnitude and the debt it is putting me into is beyond words.
This issue needs to be something mandatory for Jeep to put as a recall and they need to fix it without the cost coming out of our pockets and putting us into the poor house. Which is where I will be for the next year just trying to pay back the cost of the repair. It has me in tears that I do not have a dependable Jeep which is what I had thought when I purchased it. Shameful of Jeep to not care about its customers and not make it a recall. Just shameful that I have to go thru this on a Jeep that I have not even had for 2 years.
My compass is a 2011 and that is not old enough nor does it have the high miles to have had such a severe issue as this, leaving me stranded by the side of the road. If I was not such a smart driver, it could have caused a severe accident to happen as there was no warning just a slight sputter which felt like it had skipped running. That warning was not enough for me to get to the right side of the road and exit a 3 lane 65 mph highway which I was traveling on. Had I not reacted immediately being a mechanically inclined individual ... I would have caused a severe accident as when the TIMP goes you lose everything.
You have NO power, no brakes, no steering, no nothing but your wits to get you safely to the side of the road. Jeep is lucky I was not killed when this happened as I was on a highly traveled road with heavy traffic and I thank God that I was not hurt and was able to react as swiftly to preserve my own safety. No excuses, Jeep - NONE - for you not caring enough about your customers on an issue you are well aware of.
Update from Jul 15, 2021: I have now replaced the TIPM twice and had to replace FOUR more sensors to no avail. Jeep is now in shop waiting on another expensive part which controls the entire system. This jeep has been the worst with electrical issues. I cant keep on pouring more money into this lemon. Jeep should be ashamed of themselves. I purchased this in 2018 and now its in the shop more than I can drive it.
