I am having a problem with my 2000 Jeep Compass transmission is getting hot and it will not pull very good, it slows down to a crawl. I have to let it set for up to 30 moments before it will pull again. It is happening more often now. It drive better in manual drive, it don't get hot as often. I am going to have the dealership have a look at it. I think that I may have put the wrong kind of transmission fluid in it. It is a pain, never seen anything like it. It have a CVT transmission in it.

Traveled from Chicago to Springfield IL July 2011 temperature outside 95 degree temperature dew point 71 degrees. Vehicle overheat light came on vehicle powered down. Stopped for about several minutes restarted vehicle. Took vehicle to Firestone automotive in Springfield it was diagnosed with a OBD Trouble code P0218. Nothing was done at the time by Firestone to remedy the problem. Problem occurred again 4 years later September 2015 trip from Cincinnati to Chicago near Merrillville IN.

Vehicle was taken to mechanic problem could not be determined after an extensive diagnosis. CVT fluid was changed at recommended interval in owners manual. Transmission cooling lines were changed at five year lifetime warranty inspection due to leaks, at Wickstrom Chrysler Jeep in Barrington IL. This past weekend I was driving from Chicago to Marion IL. The same temperature light appeared again near Rantoul IL. I stopped at a Walmart with no service department to diagnose the problem. I drove the vehicle to Urbana IL to Kirby Tire and Service they were able to look at the vehicle the same OBD trouble code came up they test drove it and could not figure out the problem. The problem went away and then two days later the vehicle acted up again near Effingham Illinois. I was able to get a Culvers and waited with family. The vehicle had the same whining and high temperature light.

My brother in law out of the goodness drove my family and I back to Chicago I had to rent a UHAUL car trailer and tow the vehicle back to my mechanic who has looked at it and recommends that I take to a Jeep dealer because of the lifetime powertrain warranty that covers the transmission. I am beside myself what to do. I have made an appointment with the dealer. I am not looking forward to this experience. I have to remain positive but expect the worse and remain proactive. If there is anyone out here with any type of advice I would appreciate it.
