The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Compass. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle hit a pothole and began to decrease in speed. The contact observed a metal piece hanging under the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the subframe, rear cross member, and lower control arm were corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,051.
