While driving to work I start hearing a hear noise from the car, taking a curve. I braked little bit and the car started pulling to the passenger side. Hitting the sidewalk near fire pump. No injury occurred but could be worse if somebody was near the sidewalk or a car was behind the car. Towed to shop and verify the rear control arm was damaged.

I have worked on my 2007 Jeep Compass front end several times, the control arm bushings have gone out twice now. I have replaced the front driver side wheel bearing and struts. All around 60,000 miles?! Unbelievable.

Now I have to redo the whole front end again for failing inspection! Not to mention the safety factor of having both wheels stay straight on the autobahn!! The engineers who designed this front end should be ashamed of themselves...this puts my family at risk. Well, now I am off to another doozey of a repair bill.

FYI, I heard MOOG makes a better replacement part so break the cycle, DO NOT go to the dealership because they will put the same crappy parts on. I have just pushed over the 100K mileage mark. Rant over, I'm out.

We bought this car in 2008 (2007 Jeep Compass) and have taken really good care of it, no funny business, just work and school and back home and a few trips out of town. We started having a tire wear problem, and the tire shop said that we needed an alignment, so we took it to get alignment and the mechanic showed me some wiggle in front end and said it needed tie rods, and so we replace them for about $200. (Plus alignment)

Thought the problem solved, but while getting a oil change at the dealer, we were told and showed play in front end,and they said we needed two control arms. It cost about $900. (including new alignment) Now why wouldn't the people at Les Swab tell us we had a problem back a year ago, and why is there so many complaints in this area. The arm did not look damaged or rusted. I think they could of tightened them or something, but they said no. We never really felt anything really bad, and there was no wear on tire after the first repair.. They used scare tactics, like our wheel could fall off, and it probably could of, but why is a car with less then 100,000 miles, and taken care of have these suspension problems? Why doesn't Chrysler do a recall on this problem as it seems like a lot of people have the same exact problem. How do I get them to take this seriously as it is a safety issue for sure.

My ball joint strut, tie rod, upper and lower control arms, broke on the left side of my car, my whole tire nearly broke off my car, ... This was the second time replacing suspension on left side front. After my car was towed and diagnosed by a mechanic, I was informed that my right side front suspension needed replacing too.

This car has done nothing but annoy me! I bought it for the gas mileage but any and all savings have been eaten up in repairs to the front end. I've not only had to replace suspension parts, like bushings, control arms, etc but also the tires that prematurely wore out due to the dysfunction of these parts. Super annoying. I just got the call from the mechanic to get the parts replaced again and...now I'm currently looking for a new car. This is ridiculous. It began having issues almost a year after I bought it in 2010, with only 40k miles. There is no excuse, however hard I try to get jeep the benefit of the doubt. Definitely a money pit!

Dealer determined this about 1,500 km before it was in to fix & given an estimate much higher but online searches netted a common problem & possible 'hidden warranty'. After some arguing, they agreed to cover part but labor was largest cost - including alignment of about $120 + tax. On dropping it off, determined they only do one side & I questioned this as never heard of doing each side separate (ie. like bearings, brakes etc.) but booking person had tech. explain it was a dealership wide policy. See next complaint. 7,000 Km later (about 4,400 mi. later).

7,000 km after right ctl arm bushings were replaced, they reported on a 2 page invoice about left side having play - but never mentioned this on picking up vehicle. So after another 3,000 km they asked about issue on next oil chg. Once again argued point of why not replace both sides & save customer cost of 2 $120 + tax alignments. After waiting a day, got a discount that looks like covers part & maybe 50% of 2'nd alignment. Planning to contact Chrysler Canada about how we were treated on this, why no recall & if not pairing of suspension sides is a 'hidden warranty' policy, dealership excuse or should they address the dealership policies country wide. Not to mention that this is now a known problem now across Compass, Patriot & Calibers yet they do little for customers experiencing issue.

Replaced right control arm approx 8 months ago. State inspection July 2012...jeep dealer failed to mention left control arm in vary sad shape. Independent , but a well known automotive repair facility, noticed major problem with control arm and wondered how my vehicle passed state inspection. I viewed the damaged control arm and It was very obvious that it was about to separate from the bushing. They also pointed out that the worn control arm did not have a grease fitting which more than likely have prevented my problem as well as others have noted about the 2007 jeep compass. The right control arm that the jeep dealer replaced approx 8 months ago does not have a grease fitting either. Seems to me a grease fitting would be a no brainier. There should be a recall by jeep. They blew it !!!!!!!!!!8

The vehicle has just over 28,000 miles on it and it needs the whole front end suspension replacemed along with front brakes and rotors. The estimated repair cost is just over 1,000 dollars. I have a 1998 nissan frontier with over 154,000 miles on it and have not spent over 1,200 dollars in repair cost. I spent 500 dollars on a new exhaust and 600 dollars on the ignition system since 1998 on the nissan. I put only five to six thousand miles a year on the jeep. I see its a common problem on the dodge. Did I get the lemon. I also need to do a smoke test to figure out why the engine light came on, is this common for the jeep or dodge.

I took my 2007 Jeep Compass for state inspection and was told the control arm bushings are bad. The mechanic said you can't replace just the bushings -- the entire control arm must be replaced -- both sides. At $219 apiece, plus labor, my total repair bill will be $663. The garage said this is a frequent problem with Chrysler products, and they suggested I contact Chrysler. I did that via e-mail a few days ago, and I'm hoping they will contact me as I requested.

I've had the vehicle for one year, and I have absolutely loved it. It gets incredible mileage (30 mpg, better than the advertised 29 mpg), and is exactly what I need. I sure don't need that hefty repair bill, though. I had my 1999 Ford Escort ZX2 for 10 years and put 140,000 miles on it, and I never had a repair bill even remotely close to this one. Please, Chrysler, do the right thing!
