It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.
Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

Ignition switch recall which was issued on my jeep commander was addressed and ultimately an appointment was made upon availability. However, since the recall, the jeep will not function normally upon initial start up attempt progressively into more attempts thereafter. Connection between key switch and cylinder not responding to connection, lack thereof. This occurred at first seldom to more and more random periodic "no signal, no start". Recalls are supposed to fix the initial severe problem, correct" Not result into another problem that wasn't present before, right? Found my time fruitless in getting clarity of this issue resolved from dealer. What can I do? What should be done? As the consumer we will feel the job done wasn't done correctly. Fact is there were not any start up issues prior to the recall addressed and ignition switch replaced/fixed"
2006 Jeep Commander Limited 5.7L V8 Message as appears on dash - TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP While driving a short distance the message TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP appears, the fan kicks on HIGH & is very loud, and it feels like the transmission disengages like being thrown into neutral, but is still drivable. About 2 weeks prior, I noticed smoke coming out from under hood & the engine coolant tank was almost empty. There were no visible leaks on carport. I refilled the tank & immediately called Kilby Automotive repair shop, then took it in. They said that the radiator cap needed to be replaced. The also said the valve cover gasket was leaking. They replaced the radiator cap & made an appointment for June 3rd to replace the valve cover gasket. Before that appointment the vehicle started displaying the TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP message. I took it into Kilby Automotive on May 27, 2021. They said it was a faulty transmission temperature sensor, but they could not repair. They have done a lot of repairs on the vehicle for several years. I called Ultimate Luxury Auto Service explaining the issue. The man said that he could put a new sensor in & there is a broken transmission mount. He replaced the sensor. Fix mount later. When I was driving home, the same message appeared & the fan kicked on as before. I messaged the shop & took the vehicle back in. They put a 2nd sensor in, drove it & received the same TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP message. They returned the 2 new sensors & put my original sensor back in. They said they were sorry they could not fix it & dropped the price of repairs. I entered the make, model, & message online & found out a lot of people have the same problem. Some people have said they replaced numerous parts & it did not fix it, and others say they replaced the PCM. I am disabled and do not want to be stranded or have a vehicle fire. I am afraid that it would pose a risk to me & others, as transmission oil can ignite on hot surfaces and cause a fire in the engine.
My Jeep Commander is throwing a code U0255 no communication with front control module there is a recall for the 08 Commander and not mine can we please get this addressed please
While driving al dash lights will light up and heat will shut off.. come back on and happens again. There's no certain times it happens wheneve it wants to between 1-15 times a day driving and parked. Sunroof leaks through tubes into passenger side floor board and freezes windshield if temp is low. Transmission overheated warning comes on and transmission/ and or fluid is fine. Have had all issues checked and they can not find the problem! also need is reading code that suddenly my key isn't registered since this has been happening and my auto start won't work because of the key not being linked to my car anymore. This is unsafe and eventually will stop me from being able to drive my car. The lights all come on and then go off while driving on any street any speed or even parked. Heat shuts off while lights are on and comes back on after they shut off.

Jeep ignition switch/cylinder intermittently not starting ignition and problem has worsened. Acceleration jumping intermittently occurs even when breaking and stopped. Windshield sometimes makes whistling/roaring noise at medium to high speed. Right side of Jeep's undercarriage makes vibrating noise periodically and pulls Jeep to the right while driving forward on streets and highways and when making turns. We believe we had ignition switch/cylinder problem fixed with dealer before are again having problems. We want to have necessary problems fixed with dealer as these problems are being listed under Jeep but we haven't received all recall notices possibly because of moving. Airbag sensor and other sensors periodically appear and disappear. Would you please inform us of what issues above the dealer would be required to fix at no charge and how we may go about this. While driving the car will shift off for no reason. It appears to be something wrong I have a new battery and don't now why it's losing power.. it cuts off while driving and when I made a turn but also while driving straight. Also the wheels feels like they are wobbly while driving in the front.
Car rolls in park from time to time unless the emergency brake is set. Makes very loud grinding noise when in reverse afterward. Has "service 4WD system" message. No mechanic has been able to identify the problem.
The vehicle is constantly stalling....and has to be restarted. This occurs at stop lights, while idling, while starting to brake so you don't hit the car in front of you. If it doesn't stall instead it will rev up the rpms on its own while you are braking and jump forward... also this occurs with your foot on the brake it will still jump forward. Problem continues.
Had the ignition switch replaced according to recall. After a few months, it has become very difficult to get key to turn to start vehicle. Took the vehicle to larry miller in albuquerque nm, they want to charge me $300 to repair. According to previous owner it worked fine before taking it in for recall.
It's started off shutting off then stalling now there's no start at all no click no dash pictures I took it to a mechanic who told me my ECM needed to be repaired I seen all sorts of recalls the car doesn't start and was fine before then
I went out to start my car this morning all the lights came on then went off as I started to pull out of the driveway all the lights came back on after a few seconds went back off.
The seat belt wont latched unless you press down the released button on both driver and passenger. Also the panels leaked on passenger side and the top.
A couple years ago I got the N23 recall on my truck and after that my 4 wheel drive low will no longer work. Then got the P73 to reprogram the control module but it still don't work and displays on my dash 'service 4 wheel drive'.
The inside door handles are breaking apart. Mine have not gotten to where they will not operate yet but they are loose I am concerned about the safety of getting stuck in the Jeep if they quit working. Online they are aftermarket fixes for this problem which means there are a lot of Jeep with this problem. I can not believe that this is not a safety problem that is being over looked.
Began experiencing issues with starting at all after the ignition switch recall was worked on and resolved. The Jeep won't start at different times, different weather conditions. The proper positioning and the vehicle acknowledging it being in park is an issue. The Jeep requires parking to be forced -using the gear lever shift from drive to park and look for the jolt to indicate it's in the appropriate gear, in park
When we first got the car it was working like any normal car, however, after less than a month we started to notice a lot of change. The first problem we started to see was the whole screen turned off we are able to play music but only radio station that was saved. We are unable to tune/seek to a new radio station. Then we started to notice during the rainy season that water would enter into our car. After many tries of solving this issue, it is still happening to our car. The section where the petals are always wet and we have closed the sunroof and the cover but, nothing seems to work. Now today the check engine turn on and also the oil in the dashboard behind the steering wheel. We are worried about the safety of the car and hope to see changes soon from you. 2006 Jeep Commander V8 4.7. I have two young children and this is seriously a safety hazard that Jeep/Chrysler will not address or recall. Almost all 2006 Jeep Commanders have this issue and it's very dangerous and a passenger could become easily trapped inside the vehicle during a fire/accident due to the doors not being able to be opened because of the broken door handles. The handles are not a separate piece that you can just replace. The whole entire door panel needs to be replaced and it's very costly approximately $500 per door or more. And all 4 handles are broken this is a hassard and over $500 per handle to be fixed professional and for safety is ridilous..something needs to be done about this and I have seen thousands of complaints regarding this issue..paying good money for a vehicle and this is not considered an issue this is so not right to any of us that own this vehichle"06 Jeep Commander and all 4 handles are broken this is a hassard and over $500 per handle to be fixed professional and for safety is ridilous..something needs to be done about this and I have seen thousands of complaints regarding this issue..paid $36,000 for this vehicle brand new and still original owner but unable to drive at the moment due to doors and safety issue. We should not be responsible for this repair it is defective materials/product and they need to be responsible for these repairs!!!!! or take the car back and give us a new one!!!!
