CarComplaints.com Notes: Whenever a new product is introduced, there's bound to be some problems. And man oh man, does the 2006 Commander have some problems.

It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.

Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

We own a Jeep Commander 2006, we have had problems with the engine shutting off. It has happen while turning, while taking an off ramp, on the highway. I have refused to allow anyone to drive the Commander considering I have 3 children and my wife. The upsetting part is that the dealership says they can't do anything because the computer says their is no problem. The last incident was on Sept. 04 2007.

I own a Jeep Commander and it has died on me for now reason now more than 7 times. I was at a stop light, sometimes on the freeway the car just stops. I step on the gas and the car doesn't move the engine shuts off and the steering wheel hardens and doesn't steer. I took it into the Jeep dealer where I leased it from and they found nothing wrong with it. They told me that there are other complaints with other Commander owners but they have no fix to it. They even told me that when they find what's wrong with someone else's Commander they would call me so I guess they still don't know what's wrong this had been happening now a lot lately. I am going to take it back again to the dealer ship and see what they say. The passenger air bag light comes on also every now and then it comes on and stays on for like 5 to 10 minutes then goes off.

I took my 2006 Jeep Commander to my local dealer where I originally purchased it to get the stalling problem fixed. Five days later the service manager said that the problem was now solved (August 24,2007) finally. The service department said they put in a new program that would fix the Jeep from just losing power. August 25 Saturday morning at 8:13 while at an intersection the Jeep just died again. Another problem is the windshield breaking easily. I believe the problem with the breaking windshield could be related to the inproper fitting of the windshield which results in a loud noise being heard inside the vehicle. The dealership said they won't fix the seal problem because my Jeep has two cracks on it. I said "if you had fixed the windshield seal problem the first 3 times I brought it in we wouldn't have this problem'. no problems have yet to be solved. Ancira dealership in san antonio, tx. Many Jeep owners are purchasing multiple windshields at $385 a pop. The dealer tried to say it's just me until I pointed out all the other complaints in writing with all different VIN numbers and even showed her the rental car (Jeep Commander) which also had a cracked windshield. She's convinced too.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled under normal driving conditions. There were no warning indicator lights present. The vehicle was able to be restarted after each failure. The dealer kept the vehicle for a week, but was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 45,000 and failure mileage was 43,000.

I purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander last year. I have had the following items replaced on my Jeep front passenger interior door panel. Strange noise coming from my car that sounded like playing cards in bike tires ended with replacing front axel ring and pinion. Car kept popping out of gear the entire gear shift was replaced. My passenger window had to be fixed it kept sticking halfway up. I had a problem where my car kept stalling. I was told the first time that no error appears on the computer and Jeep knew of no issue with cars stalling so maybe it was bad gas. It died several more times and finally they did replace a part inside the idol. I also had an issue where my headlights kept turning off as I drove or would flash on and off. They replaced the headlight switch. I have had the rubber stripping from my back driver side window come off and now it is occurring on the passenger side. From the beginning I have told them I do not feel my transmission is working properly that it shifts hard and when I shift from reverse to drive there is a big hesitation. I have been told no error is appearing on computer and that Jeep as usual has no known issues so they had no suggestions. Once again they thought it was a gas issue moving from winter to summer blend. The last time I had it in when it was stalling I told them it the transmission was still hesitating and would make a pop noise at times then it would go. It is still occurring and at times the car acts like it might not shift into drive. I am satisfied with how my dealership is working with me they are doing their best to help me. I blame Jeep/Chrysler all you have to do is search the web to see that there are so many others just like me with the exact same issue. They need to recall these cars now and if they can not find the problem then replace them for us.

While driving, vehicle has a complete blackout - it completely shuts down, engine stops running, everything dies! this has happened when driving on a major highway and when on a local road. Dealer can not find problem. Vehicle has been at dealer in excess of 30 days without resolution. Dealer lent us a loaner - same model - and the same problem occurred. When reported to Chrysler corporate, they did nothing and were not interested in helping address the problem. We feel this problem is serious enough to cause a major accident, death and or injury.

My 2006 Jeep Commander occasionally "hesitates" when I accelerate. Thus far it has not caused an accident, but chances are good that it might happen one day soon. This hesitation often happens when I am turning at an intersection and I fear that it may happen when I am unable to evade an oncoming car.

On three occasions, my 2006 Jeep Commander has stalled while driving, each time while turning left. On one occasion, I lost complete control of steering, braking and accelerating; thankfully I was able to avoid the other vehicles in my vicinity. The other two times I was able to restart the vehicle while driving., but was almost rear-ended both times due to drastic deceleration. I will be taking my car in for service; however I?M not confident that they'll find anything. From what I've read, it is a common problem that is difficult to replicate. I have 3 young children and now fear for our lives each day. I hope that Jeep will recognize this growing problem and recall the vehicle before somebody gets killed. If I had the means to buy a new car, I would in a second. I no longer feel safe in this car.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle shut down. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure, but advised the contact to drive the vehicle and, when it shuts down or stalls, have the vehicle towed to them. The manufacturer advised the contact to take it back to the dealer and request a rental until the failure is corrected. The current mileage is 22,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.

At approx 29K my 2006 Jeep Commander began acting like it was going to stall out while the engine idled whether in park or drive. It also would act like it was going to stall if I were turning and hit a curb or bump. Examples of when this happened: 1. at night, my engine was running, the car was in drive with my foot on the brake and my door was open; the interior lights began to dim and the engine almost cut off. 2. I was turning right from one road to another and hit the curb and the engine almost stalled. 3. I was stopped at an intersection waiting to turn right onto a road when the engine almost stalled. 3. I was parked with the engine running idle at a gas station looking for my atm card when the engine almost stalled. These instances seem to happen every couple of weeks. The Jeep has been to 2 different dealers three different times for this and they told me that they can't replicate the problem and that my alternator is working at the correct amps. In addition, I have had transmission leaks and my family was left stranded 6 hours away due to a transmission problem that one dealer said was the mistake of another when they fixed my transmission leak.

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander sport, 4.7L 4X4 purchased in February '06. This morning was the third time that the vehicle stalled for no apparent reason, causing complete loss of power steering & power brakes. The vehicle was being driven slowly through the neighborhood, approaching stop signs or turns, during all 3 incidents. All 3 times I put the vehicle in neutral and immediately it restarted.

I bought this Jeep Commander in March 23, 2006. The first time that the vehicle stalls while driving at 65 mph on the freeway was four months after I bought it. The power went off as if the ignition is turned off and the steering wheel hardened which made it impossible to turn to the shoulder lane. I ignored this problem because it never came back until April 5-10, 2007. I brought the Commander to a dealer in the area and have them check the problem. They can not find the problem or duplicate it to fix it. They told me there were no problem. I'm scared out of my wits driving this Jeep, not knowing when it stalls again. A few days later I brought it back to the dealer for it stalls on me again while driving 50 mph in the freeway. After a week of researching and diagnostics, they told me they might have fixed the problem by updating the final drive module. Today, May 3, 2007, while driving 20 mph, the Commander stalls again. All the light signs flick on and off as I drive. I have two children, 2 and 10 years old and I'm so scared that other cars will hit us.
