CarComplaints.com Notes: Whenever a new product is introduced, there's bound to be some problems. And man oh man, does the 2006 Commander have some problems.

It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.

Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the air condition failed and would not blow cold air. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer performed a leak test that located the failure at the air conditioning lines. The air conditioning lines were located at the rear wheel and accumulated salt, thus causing the air conditioner lines to corrode and leak. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 93,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.

After having problems with dashboard lights going all on and off while driving two years ago, now my transmission has failed and the computer has gone out of the car. I have had ongoing issues with the air conditioning, and have replaced the module in the air conditioning to just have the issue re-appear a year later. The cruise control has gone out. And with heavy rains, I have leaking with my sunroof.

I own a 2006 Jeep Commander 4X4 V8. I have had a ton of problems with it. It makes a terrible wind noise coming from the windshield, my ac sounds like a freight train when switch to or from ac, and the most dangerous is that my car dies while turning on a regular basis. I have taken the car in and the dealer tells me they can not find the problem. I am so annoyed with my death trap. I drive around my 3 kids, my husband, and myself. I fear for ours lives being in this car. It is unsafe and will end up killing someone one day.
