CarComplaints.com Notes: Whenever a new product is introduced, there's bound to be some problems. And man oh man, does the 2006 Commander have some problems.
It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.
Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

Turned the heat on and when I was ready to turn it off it keeps running in low. I always have the sunroof open because the heat won't turn off roasting my ass off
I purchased the commander off of the showroom floor for over $45,000.00, this Jeep has always been in a garage, never abused or even dented, it looks like a new vehicle, we have had problems with it from the first year, all of the lights on the dash would just come on and flash, then you had unplug the battery to get it to reset, we had to have a new ABS break module put on at a cost of $790.00, a speed control put in the left rear wheel, cooling fan problems wil not speed up to high speed to keep air cool at idle. windshield wipers come on at random. now the airbag light is on and will not go off, will take to a dealer. we have replaced a lot of other parts, hoses, shocks , breaks, water pump,etc. regualr maint. we were told that it may cost from $1,500.00 to $2,500.00 to fix the air problem. we do have some problems with it speeding up, the ignition switch was replaced under warranty within the first year, and we still have problems. we also had a water leak aroung the driver side door. The quality of what we purchased was not what you received.
My air front conditioner started blowing hot air, I had a test done to check for leaks. I was told that due to the design of the entire air conditioning unit. My rear air conditioning lines corroded because they are located above the wheel wells where all the muck from the road gets flung, I was told the fix was to replace the entire rear unit at a cost of $754.00. I did not get it fixed.
The air conditioning started making a noise(like a tweeting) .I took it to dealer they found 2 unchopped leaves in it and said it voided the warranty but it could be fixed for $500.00.Two other people I know with this vehicle also had the same problem. I never got it fixed we just listen to the noise.
The air conditioner does not allow you to adjust the temperature if the fan is not on.

AFTER EXPLAINING THIS PROBLEM FOR THE THIRD TIME A TECHNICIAN CAME OUT AND CHECKED MY A/C TEMPS AND THAT OF ANOTHER COMMANDER, HE SAID THAT IT'S BLOWING 90 DEGREES AT THE LOWEST SETTING. HE REPORTED IT TO CHRYSLER'S TECH SUPPORT LINE. WHO TOLD HIM THATS ITS A NORMAL WORKING CONDITION. BULLSHIT! THEY ARE TRYING TO AVOID FIXING A SOMEWHAT COSTLY PROBLEM. AT $30,000 A WORKING A/C IS THE VERY LEAST THEY CAN DO. I'M FILING A LEMON LAW SUIT NEXT.
