CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.
My PTU went out at 41,000 miles. It started out as a "4x4 system unavailable" message and like a week later - my vehicle would not go into gear - drive, reverse, 4x4 low - nothing. Had it towed to the dealership as it is (thankfully) under warranty. The dealership has had my vehicle for over 2 1/2 months and there is no end in sight. Allegedly, the part is on backorder and they have no ETA on when this will be rectified. I have been without a vehicle since before Thanksgiving 2023. Unfortunately my dealership claims they have no loaner for me and Jeep Customer Care has been basically no help at all.
I see the PTU is an ongoing issue for lots of us. There is a class action suit that is in the works with a firm addressing this problem. Their form can be filled out here: https://www.sauderschelkopf.com/investigations/automotive/jeep-cherokee-ptu-failure-class-action-investigation/
Clearly Jeep has not fixed the PTU issue from earlier model recalls. People need to restitution with this problem.
I can say this much after dealing with my dealership and Jeep Customer "Care" - I will never buy another Jeep again in my life.
At 160,000 KM my PTU needs to be replaced in my Jeep Cherokee Limited. This is the exact issue we had in our 2015 Jeep and had to battle with Chrysler about it. They denied us only to then issue a recall and refund 3 years later.
This is obviously a known issue..
