CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

Cherokee Trailhawk V6

  • Automatic transmission

Hard shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Car hesitates, then revs and lurches. I ease off the gas, accelerate, and it does it again. Only occurs when transmission is cold, even in warm weather. However, it doesn't happen every time I leave work at the end of the day, only about 60-70% of the time. Dealership said they could not replicate the issue nor could they see an error code come up on the engine diagnostic. Still, not happy and likely will be the last Jeep I buy.

Cherokee High Altitude 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61 miles

From the day that I drove it out of the dealership, I noticed that applying the gas did not get me the instant needed power to get this 6-cylinder car moving. In November this car with less that 300 miles was back at the dealership when it also developed a surge in power and a fluctuating engine revving... it spent a month at the dealership before they could determine what the problem was.

That problem may have been solved but the acceleration is still a concern of ours which we need to live with for another 2-years which is the remainder of our lease.

Cherokee Latitude 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50 miles

The vehicle has hesitated on upshifting when the accelerator is depressed since new. Got a recall on reflashing the trany. After a 2 hr wait at the dealer, its still the same. When complaining at the service dept, was told thats the way they work. No other vehicle I've ever owned behaves this way. Yesterday got another recall notice, saying when I had the last reflash, It might have been the wrong one, or improperly done, so I will try again. This will be my last Jeep!

Cherokee Latitude 2.4L Multi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,500 miles

Had vehicle in dealership about a month ago because vehicle had about a 5 to 10 second delay when trying to accelerate from a roll of about 40 miles an hour. Vehicle started having the same issue again yesterday. Was told when I took the car in last month that they had to re-sync the transmission and engine. That did seem to help with the shifting issue but now it's started again the acceleration delay again. This is the second ongoing problem that hasn't been fixed. I will be filing under the state lemon law on the transmission and oil consumption because dealership has failed to fix either one.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 218 miles

Horrible transmission. Had doubts about purchasing Cherokee because of reviews that mentioned transmission problem but thought they were resolved. Test drove couple Cherokees and they were ok, but the 2019 exhibits the transmission issues mentioned for the previous year models.
