CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

On 12/30/2024, I received a -??4WD SVC-?? light on the dashboard of my 2019 Jeep Cherokee (odometer reading 61,000). Upon a quick Google search, this is a very common problem with the Jeep Cherokee-??s Power Transfer Unit. I took my Jeep in to be diagnosed at an independent service center (1/3/2025), where it was confirmed that my vehicle was reading a code: C14A7-97 (PTU motor component, or system operation obstructed, or blocked). It has been noted that the PTU failure can result in a loss of power to the front wheels, potentially causing reduced traction, difficulty turning, and noticeable noises like grinding or knocking, especially when turning, due to the malfunctioning gears inside the unit; in severe cases, the front wheels might completely lock up depending on the nature of the failure. My vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representative; however, a Google search indicates that there is an ongoing class action investigation (Saunder, Schelkopf - Attorneys at Law) for PTU failures in 2019-2022 Jeep Cherokee-??s.

My vehicle is leaking in the front and passenger seat and my emergency brake comes on and I can't disengage it unless I stop the car and turn it off and back on. Sometimes it takes 2 times to do this. In November, twice I was merging into traffic going 45 miles per hour and it happened. I prayed I wouldn't get smashed. I turned the car off and back on and I was able to disengage the emergency brake. On 1/3/2025, it happened as I was backing out of my driveway onto traffic. I had to turn the car on and off 2 times before I could disengage the emergency brake. I was lucky no vehicles traveling on the road. There is a terrible sound and then the car bucks and you are jarred. I read about an investigation on this same issue back in July 2022. My dealer says until they can replicate the problem they can't fix it. Please help!

I was driving our 2020 Newmar Baystar #3609 motorhome and towing our 2019 Jeep Cherokee. In 2021, I had the Blue Ox tow bar, 10k rated along with the Blue Ox base plate installed at a RV dealer in Mead, WA. We have had no issues at all with this tow system during the last 4 years, we have never drove "off road", backed the unit up with our Jeep attached or abused the two system in any way. We had driven 6 hours from Pensacola, FL heading to the Mayport Naval Station. While on a secondary road approaching the base, I felt a tug on the motorhome. I checked my mirrors and saw our Jeep tracking to the passenger side and now not directly behind our motorhome. I pulled over and luckily there was no damage to our motorhome, our Jeep or any other property. I saw the passenger side base plate had failed. While examining the piece that had broken off, I noted the area where the "weld" was supposed to be didn't look right. It almost looks like the entire area that should have been welded to the base plate was spotty at best. I have reached out to Blue Ox Customer Service requesting they reimburse for a new set of base plates and the normal labor now to install them. I'm being quoted 4 hours labor which is more that the base plates. I'm glad the remaining base plate held, or our Jeep would have detached completely and even with the emergency break away attached, the likelihood of damaging persons or property would have been high. I took photos of the failed base plate and will keep both parts in the event they need to be examined by a competent person.

The car has been running out of coolant the past couple of months with no known visual leaking problems. I brought it to the mechanic who stated the radiator had to be replaced. No warning prior. No leaking or lights coming on. Another issue the uconnect subsystem powers on and off whenever it wants. Switches from GPS. Radio, heating and a/c. Causing distraction to the driver. I have not been able to know why it is happening. Went from several times a month to now daily.

While idling in my child's school drop off line, I was in park with car running, I stepped on the brake to put the car into gear to move forward and the car stalled and wouldn't start back up until about 1-2 minutes later. No lights were lit up once I restarted the car. This happened one other time and we thought it was the battery, but not we are rethinking it wasn't the battery.

I've been advised that the cover over the rear differential is cracked and that the entire differential needs to be replaced. It seems illogical that the cover protecting a rear differential on a Jeep vehicle would be of a material that would crack when the vehicle has not been driven under extreme conditions. Both drivers have been and are currently [XXX] and have not had any citations. My residence is on a dirt road and some of my travel is on dirt roads however the appropriate care is taken. The vehicle is a 2019 with approximately 32,000 miles which indicates that the yearly mileage is low. I would appreciate consideration that the material used for the cover is faulty and that I should not be subject to the expense of replacing it and the rear differential. Fortunately it is not providing problems at this time and I have contacted the dealer to get it repaired/replaced. BUT I truly feel that this is faulty equipment on a JEEP. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I could not get out of the driver's side of the car. I was the driver and tried to leave the vehicle, it would not let me. Something wrong with the door handle. Window does work on driver's side; but not the handle to open car door to exit. If I or anyone else in my situation was in an accident, I would not be able to get out on my own without emergency personnel help. Only day to take it to original dealership is next Tues. [XXX]. [XXX]and had to climb over the middle console to exit front passenger door. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My family and I drove from San Antonio, TX to El Paso, TX on [XXX]. In the car were 4 passengers, including a 11 month old child. At the start of the drive, a warning message that read "4WD overheated. Temporarily unavailable" was seen. The alert showed 1 time and upon a quick search online, was seemingly insignificant. It never showed up again during the drive. We did leave around 4pm so the sun was out and hot, we believed it to be a temporary warning that would not affect our drive as we did not need 4WD during the drive. The jeep did not have a lot of miles on it and was only serviced at the dealership at appropriate windows as recommended by professionals. Once we reached El Paso, a strong smell occurred. Followed shortly by fire and flames coming from the front area, under the hood, near the engine. We pulled off to the side of the road while the flames grew bigger. The infant and all 4 adults were able to exit the vehicle timely but the fire was very large. Many onlookers stopped to check on our welfare. There was an investigation done but all that was said was that there was in fact a fire, and it did in fact start near the front of the vehicle by the engine. Chrysler said they could not determine anything further as there was damage from the fire. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The screen on my vehicle began delaminating at a significant rate. As the screen continues to delaminate, the u-connect screen registers the touches as inputs. E.g. it will turn off my lights while i'm driving, switch to the back-up camera as i'm driving forward. This system controls steering, braking, and other important safety features

The old battery died and auto zone installed a new one. The AAA tech that jumped me told me that the computer would be weird"? A safety hazard is when I put in reverse the back camera doesn-??t go on?? So if I don-??t look or don-??t hear anything then there could be an accident?? Also the tire pressure on the console doesn-??t work?? If I had a flat while driving it would not tell me how low my psi is on the tire?? I could have an accident?? Also the acceleration I think is slower due to the computer error that tells me to service shifter?? I just had a new battery installed and should not have these issues due to jeep having programming issues after a new battery is installed?? I never had this problem on any car I had after a battery installation??"

while driving the car at 40 mph it just quit running! engine completely out causing driver to swerve. Vehicle behind had to swerve around to avoid collision. There was no accident and nobody was injured but a close call! Two different shops (one being the certified Jeep/Chrysler mechanic) confirmed total engine faulure! The first shop told me that the turbo fatally failed and sent metal shrapnel through the air intake ports and scored and scratched the inside of the cylinder walls. Then oil passed through the motor and through the entire exhaust system ruining the catalytic converter and all sensors in the motor and exhaust system. There were no warning lamps or warnings of any kind. The car is less than 5 years old and has approx 76,000 miles. Cost to repair: $17,260

When the fuel saving auto off feature is engaged, this vehicle has stalled, locked, and/or shut down completely in traffic several times. I have almost been hit several times and this is very frightening. I took the car to the dealership several times and they said nothing was wrong. I disengage that auto off feature every single time and have every since I realized that the auto off was the causing factor. This usually happened during braking or resuming from slowing down. I read today that this was a factor in 2022 Hemi models and it is the same type of thing that I experienced with this 2019 non-Hemi. I realize that the car is old and this is something that began happening back when the car was about a year old. I am glad to know that it's not just me but please understand that it's related to older cars as well.

At random times the radio will start changing stations on its own and it will also dial phone numbers. Most recently it dialed 911 while grandkids were in the car. It will also turn the heat or AC on and off, changes temperature settings, sometimes it turns on the backup camera. everything that is on the Uconnect control panel is affected. The only way to get it to stop is to shut the Uconnect radio system off. This is a safety distraction when it starts these problems. From the research I have done other vehicles with this same radio Uconnect system have safety recalls issued, it needs to be extended to all vehicles with this system.

The 8.4 UConnect radio screen in my vehicle is delaminating. This is causing the radio to have phantom touches where the radio will cycle through different screens, make phone calls on its own, change the HVAC, among other issues, while the car is operating. I did have the vehicle looked at by a dealership, who immediately saw the screen and told me with this model of U connect screen the delamination is a known issue. The manufacturer has not looked at the vehicle, but does acknowledge this issue and accepts that this is an issue across multiple vehicle lines they own.

The uConnect Panel system malfunctioned and was attempting to contact emergency services while I was driving, in addition to opening other apps on the system and rotating to the back camera while driving at high speeds on a highway. This is a common issue that I am reading about and is not safe and Jeep needs to fix this issue. Had there been more cars on the road, I could have easily been in an accident because it was alarming and I wasn't sure what was happening to my car. I drove straight to a service station and had them come see what was happening before turning it off so I could try and figure out a solution. I am also happy my children were not in the car. I have contacted the dealer but they have not returned my call and I do not think this cost should be put on the consumer when this is not a regular maintenance issue and is so common of a concern among consumers. It also appears that there have been other complaints in previous years, yet no one is considering the panic it causes drivers and the potential of major accidents.

Delamination of the main screen that houses the control panel for the vehicle. After much research, this is a common failure on the Chrysler vehicles. This delamination is caused the radio to rapidly switch through all the buttons which is extremely distracting. With it turned off, all features are visibly unavailable. This should be a recall. As a car manufacturer, having settings that affect the way the vehicle physically brakes and steers that are configured via the Uconnect system, and that system has a defect that can cause those settings to change without the knowledge of the user, that-??s a safety issue.
