CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

Purchased Jeep in 2021 with 45k miles. Great vehicle overall, but randomly would not start. First time, called AAA, couldn't jump off, had it towed to dealership. Immediately off tow truck, it cranked right up. Jeep diagnosed but couldn't find anything and no fault codes. Thought it was a fluke. About 6 months later, happened again. Had it towed, right off tow truck, started and right up. This happened 3-4 times. I let dealership keep it about 4 weeks, they say they cranked it every day but never could reproduce the issue. Put brand new battery in it, checked starter, alternator, say they found nothing wrong.
I get the vehicle back and it started perfectly for a month and all of a sudden, same issue again (almost 6 months since last time). I google the issue and it's obvious others are having very similar issue. I see a message on dash for 1st time reading "STARTER PROTECTION MODE - WAIT TO START" and it counts down from 60 seconds but at the end, still won't start. When Jeep had the car, they claim they had a case opened with Jeep engineers but were unable to find a problem. I would love to sell the Jeep but I can't sell it like this. Side Note: I purchased an OBD and keep it plugged in 24/7 but it never shows any codes/faults.
