CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

The auto start/stop feature kicks in as normal, however the car does not start back after doing so. This does not happen every time but happens often enough to cause issues, like in traffic, and on slops. The brakes lock up, and I have more than once started rolling backwards. All gears flash on the display, and I must cycle the key to fix the issue. Possibly related to the underlying issue, but not the start/stop feature, if the car is in neutral for any period of time, such as when being pulled through a car wash, the exact same thing happens. When I try to shift back into drive to pull out of the car wash, the D flashes on the display, nothing happens, no matter how much time I spend trying to get it to register, which honestly isn't much, I have to get out of the car wash quickly, nothing happens. I'm left once again having to cycle the key and restart the vehicle. Every single time after the issue happens when the vehicle has been in neutral, the start stop issue occurs on the first instance of it being engaged. The dealership doesn't seem to care, wouldn't even take a copy of my video, and are putting so many miles on my brand new vehicle to "replicate" the issue. This has been happening since early July, and Jeep nor Chrysler seems to have any answers as they've "never seen this before".

The vehicle restarted after the second attempt and was driven to autonation Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (2201 victory drive, columbus, ga 31901, (855) 616-5890) for diagnostic testing, but no failures were found. • 5,200 miles
Three times while driving, then making a 90 degree turn, my car has stalled out. The only light that comes on is the battery light, and a message on the dash that says something like "car is not in park". each time this has happened I have had to pull quickly to the side of the road, put the car in park and restart the car. There is never any warning light that the car is about to stall; the only light that comes on is the battery light, and that is after the car has stalled. I've taken it to the Jeep dealer and they told me that the oil was low and it is actually a safety feature that the car will stall when the oil is low. My car is new, it only has 5200 miles on it. The oil should not be low. Furthermore, I do not consider it a safety issue that the car stalls while driving, without any warning that the car is about to stall.

Purchased 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4X4 2.4L engine on May 12th. Only have 1,700 miles and it has stalled on me on three occasions not due to the ess. June 2018: -1st: While entering the freeway during rush hour it stalled, causing me to coast to a stop on the side, put it in park, and restart it. Almost caused an accident. Two weeks later: -2nd: Coasting to a stop sign, stalled, coasted to stop, put in park, restarted. August 2018: Today: Coasted to stop sign, stalled, restarted. It has been to the dealer twice already since I purchased in may, they cannot figure it out and I'm not alone, please see this article: Https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-T77882_ds917392 this is a huge safety concern as I'm nervous it will happen while on freeway, all three times the battery light came on as well as the charging icon. Dealer has no idea what is causing this and I'm paying $457 for a brand new vehicle that is unsafe.

While driving a vehicle with only 4200 miles on it, the Jeep staled without warning. Jeep restarted and was driven. When I called the local dealership, I was informed to check my oil level - that it would be low and to refill. I asked how they know this and the dealership's service center informed me that this is a "known issue" with the 2.4 liter engine and is "common". I checked my oil, sure enough, it was low - I would say two (2) quarts low (in a 5 quart system). No "check engine light", no "service issue announcement" from Jeep - no warning at all for a "known issue". this is inexcusable! oil temp was never above haft way, I still have 30% on the oil change meter. I owned a 2014 Jeep Cherokee and never had an issue with a 2.4L engine. Can't wait to see what Jeep is going to do for all the Jeep Cherokee owners that this "know issue" is going to affect.

On another occasion, while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated.
