CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

The Jeep has the auto start-stop system that turns off the engine when stopping for a prolonged amount of time but the car is still in drive. When I use this, the car often will lose all power when trying to restart and will take a moment before regaining power while I am at the stoplight. I also had a problem with the car starting in general. It will often lose power for a moment when starting. The battery is in good shape. It was just recently inspected while at an oil change. The battery is not the problem. The electrical system is (as I have read whilst doing research since this problem started).
I was driving the Jeep Cherokee and it stalled while driving, and engaged the parking brake. I then had to put the vechile in park release the parking brake turn it off then on again in order to make it operational. Since then the vehicle has started to have issues with EVCS and breaking system. The vechile will stall and engage parking brake while idling, driving, or even in park. Having a vechile that engages the braking system automatically increases the risk of getting into a crash. This has happened numerous times and brought up to the dealership in which they stated the vechile was in need of an oil change.
The entire infotainment unit malfunctions, including the rear view camera, heating and cooling controls, navigation system, cell-phone service and radio-related controls. For example: the rear camera comes on when driving down the road, the heat comes on in the max setting (instead of the a/c) in the summer or the a/c comes on in the winter, the navigation system suddenly displays maps in far-away states, the car-??s Bluetooth cell# pairing repeatedly dials the numbers in my cell contact list and the radio station buttons beep and keep rapidly changing the radio stations.
My personal owned 2019 Cherokee has a bubbling/delamination issue with the infotainment screen. Screen has bubbles which obstructs the view for using reverse. The screen has visible obstructions which could render view and cause a crash, serious bodily harm, or death. This has been a ongoing issue with these screens and needs to be addressed before there is a death.
My car just stated acting up I got several warnings, start stop not working, all the systems falling, I have checked battery and alternator but not luck it still have the same issues. Transmission not shifting. It died while I have-??s driving on a really busy highway, luckily I was able to pull over.

Failure Date: 03/06/2023 and before this date. The stereo was replaced and it had two recalls and my car vin was one recalled the recall was fixed but it-??s been two years so the warranty out but same issue that was never fixed. I purchased my Jeep in 10/2018 and I have reported numerous times that my car stalls while driving on freeway or street I was told it was because it-??s low on oil But all my warning lights come on and then the emergency brake comes on the the jeep stops and car won-??t start. I took it to the local dealership in March and the technician did not find anything wrong. They replaced battery and the same day I got it back the car died. The problem still persists they had my car for two weeks, I got the car back on April 11, 2023 and April 12,2023 stalled again and lights come on and off. My lights or windshield wipers turns off and on by itself while parked, the techs say they can-??t find anything wrong. Most recently since my vehicle has been stalling out while driving and the sterring wheel is locking up and the battery light comes on. This issue is now becoming very consistent and happening every day. The vehicle has stalled out on me in the past week numerous times in traffic. My engine light is on, auto start and stop system is unavailable and electronic stability control system is offline. I have report the development to my local dealership and they cannot correct the problem. This is a major problem and based on the research that I have done, alot of the Jeep Cherokees have this issue. This jeep is VERY UNSAFE AND IM AFRAID I WILL GET HIT IN THE BACK. Please explain to me how a jeep dealership can-??t fix my car? My car is a lemon that I paid 26,000 dollars for
Warning lights for multiple electric systems including Blind spot monitoring, throttle control, stability control, and transmission all came on at the same time. Windshield wipers turned on on their own, car started behaving like it was neutral when in drive (would rev instead of accelerate when pressing gas pedal). After pulling over and turning the car off, car would not restart, brake pedal would not engage to attempt restart. Left stranded on side of road. Vehicle just crossed 37k miles.
For the passed few months (beginning Sept 2022), my cars temperature gauge inside shows that its running hot even when there is coolant present. When checking the coolant prior to taking off the cap, the conatiner looks empty. However, when i take off the cap there is a gurgling noise and the container refills on its own. Unfortunately. I've had to add coolant to my car every 5-10 days to make sure it stays full because it constantly says it's hot, all the way to the H. Since then there have been a list of other issues: 1. heat has randomly stopped working and the check engine light has come on. 2. Error message saying automatic stop/start is unavailable and service stop/start 3. Lots of jerking when pressing the gas petal to accelerate and you can hear the gears trying to move, but it gets stuck at 1 number and then a hard jerk 4. Ticking/knocking sound when driving (started 1/1/23) 5. When using the dash screen, it randomly blanks out and I am unable to see/hear until I restart the car 6. Seatbelts lock when trying to put them on after starting the car. The belts will not move and it cannot be put on until after I move the car in reverse/drive.
Ever since I bought this, the battery keeps dying. There is something in the electrical that keeps draining the battery. I went online and typed in "2019 Jeep Cherokee battery keeps dying" and there are HUNDREDS of people with the same problem as mine. I went to AutoZone and had my battery tested. The man tested the battery and it was fine. He told me that something electrical was draining the battery. Can you help us?
This vehicle equipped with turbocharge. On 3 different occasions vehicle stalled instead of accelerating while pulling out into traffic from a stopped position. Message appeared saying "Service electronic throttle". Also, ESS symbol came on in red where warning symbols appear at the same time.Later, that went off and electrical symbol came on, looks like lightning bolt. Engine did restart itself after about 20 seconds, with vehicle shuddering rather violently. This could have caused a serious accident.
I have problem with my ac stop work after next day i went to change my oil on the dealer, now work and stop work, they said i need to pay 100 for let me know what is the problem, also the star/stop not work for long time ago.
The parking brake automatically engages while the vehicle is in MOTION. This is extremely unsafe as I have to shut off the engine and turn it back on in the middle of the road.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while stopped in traffic, the vehicle lost electric power and shutdown without warning. The contact stated she moved around the battery cables and the vehicle was able to restart. The dealer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was unknown.
My car shifted into neutral while driving and flashed "park to shift to drive" on the dash. I had to park, turn the car off, then turn it back on in order to drive. This happened 7 times trying to get home. The next day it just shut off while driving and the check engine light came on. I could have been rear-ended or caused an accident. My car would not accelerate until it was turned off and back on. I had people blaring their horns and swerving around me. The dealer told me the codes were an evaporative pressure switch and CAN bus code. They diagnosed the CAN bus issue as the PTU and replaced it. When I picked up the car, I had a rattling noise under the hood. I took it back to the dealer. When they fixed it, the ESS (Engine Stop/Start) was no longer working. A few weeks later, the jeep won't start and can't be jumped by other vehicles. Roadside assistance could get it started, but as soon as they disconnected their commercial jumper, it died. Had to tow back to dealer. Now I am told it is the alternator and battery.
Hello -- My Jeep has had a repetitive issue with the Start/Stop system since I took ownership. In recent months, my vehicle has stalled on two separate occasions by completely shutting down at a stop light. First the "hood switch is open" alert comes up, then an emergency braking alert comes up, all while the vehicle completely shuts off as I am accelerating. This is extremely dangerous as it could definitely cause an accident as I'm mid-intersection. I have taken my vehicle to Jeep to complain of the issue, but they have let me know that the vehicle is not recording the error codes and there is nothing to be done. They literally send me home to continue driving it and have the stalling happen again. I have done extensive research and found that I am not the only Jeep owner with this issue. In fact, they have also gone through very similar frustrations with the dealership as they state there is nothing to be done. From my research it looks like it could be the IBS connector (intelligent battery sensor), but it also could be a poor electrical system. Please help.
Vehicle auto stop/start malfunctioning. Vehicle has shut off while driving. Vehicle has shut off while coming to a stop. Vehicle fails to start with auto stop/start feature. Vehicle currently won-??t start.
I bought this car end of July 2022, around 31,000 miles from a Jeep dealer. Within weeks I began receiving alerts on my dash that the 4WD needed to be serviced as well as the start/stop function. Dealer had my car in Sept for almost two weeks. Today, something flashed on my screen stating electric failure and it completely shut down. Nothing will turn on. It had to be drug up onto the tow truck as it could not be placed into neutral. Upon reviewing online resources, this appears to be an issue with this year/model, often happening while the car is in motion. This is terrifying! I have owned two Dodge Journeys and am currently leasing a wrangler. I have been a long time Dodge/Jeep customer and am terrified to drive this vehicle! If I could hand the keys back I would. The service center at the dealership said that they -??should-?? be able to look at my car next week- just to look at it!
I was driving down the road, got onto the highway, and I suddenly lost my power steering. I noticed the red warning light come on right when it happened. Up to this point I never had any problems with the power steering or any warning messages. It was raining pretty hard, and I could not safely pull over for a couple miles. I finally found a space to pull off to. Turned my vehicle off, let it sit for a little bit and then turned it back on. The warning was gone and everything felt ok. So I got back onto the highway and 3 minutes later it all happened again. I was able to make it to my destination and hoped that if I let it sit a little longer maybe it'll fix itself. After about an hour I went to go start my car and the warning was still on and this time a warning message appeared stating my power steering needed servicing. I turned my car off and then back on and the message was gone and everything was working again. I left my destination to go back home about a mile down the road I lost my power steering again, this time both the light and the message appeared. I made it home and the issue continues to persist. I only have 45k miles on it. This just happened today so I have not been able to get it into a shop. The fact that this happened on the highway was very scary. I had a very hard time just trying to get it back into my driveway.
