CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.
I had this Cherokee built specifically for me. It had all but 2 options in the build. The transmission noise started after about 500 miles. At about 1,000 I took it to the dealer and they installed a new transmission. It was still there. They eventually had our fully paid for car for over 90 days.
The end diagnosis. "Yeah, there's a sound but that is expected." If I trade this in, it will show at least 4 Carfax reports. If I sell this on the open market, NO ONE in their right mind would buy it due to the noise. If this vehicle had made this noise on day 1, I would NEVER have purchased it.
Brand new 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x4. If driving in Auto-mode, at about 10 - 30 mph, and suddenly slam the brakes to reduce the speed of the vehicle (e.g. when approaching a speed bump), I will hear a "single click sound" under the front end of the vehicle. It seems to be more apparent when going up or down an incline. It is also more noticeable when the windows are fully down, the radio and air conditioner are off, and the surrounding area is relatively quiet. It used to happen occasionally and quiet. Now, it's on every occasion and it's very loud.
Took it to the dealership 4 times. First time, they tighten a couple bolts, no fix. Second time, they had their "best technician" drive the vehicle. I heard the sound, he says he didn't, so nothing came of that. Third time, they invited the big guns from Chrysler Dodge to come test it. I left it overnight. They too didn't hear the problem. Wow.
So the 4th time, the manager decided to drive with me. I drove this time and he heard the sound immediately, before I even drove off the lot. They took it in for a whole 4 weeks and they finally tell me that the sound is characteristic of the power transfer unit between the transmission and rear axle, therefore no repairs are needed. Wow. So I am supposed to drive a brand new car that sounds like an old broke down truck.
There's so much more that happened that I could talk about. But I need this problem resolved. It's very unfair, unprofessional and unacceptable. I can't even enjoy a brand new vehicle due to that loud clunking noise that is allegedly supposed to be normal?
I noticed that when driving on the highway and I let off the gas to coast and then press again I hear a clicking noise. I took it to the dealership and they could not duplicate it; it does not always do it. They flashed the transmission but it is still doing it. I purchased this as my 1st new vehicle to avoid problems guess I was wrong.
