The service shifter has come on multiple times lately and it requires me to shut the car down completely. Once restarted the car runs perfectly until about another 300 miles or so and the service light comes back on. Recently my car will show service shifter then it just shuts down completely in the middle of driving extremely dangerous. I've been seeing more and more people having this problem with this year make and model and it should definitely be something they investigate and recall it's extremely dangerous to just be driving and your car decides to shut off.
For over a month now I've received"service shifter" message. Car shakes badly and loses power as if its going to shut off. Three different times it did shut off and struggled to re-crank! service shifter message goes away after turning the Jeep off & back on. Very unsafe when driving on the highway (or anywhere)!!! purchased brand new and is up to date on oil changes, etc. Jeep also burns more oil than it should.
Shifter service warning light has came on at 48,000 miles and goes off when I restart my vehicle but has came back on repeatedly afterwards. It only happens after I'm driving for about 10 mins and when I put my Jeep in park and the warning light comes on and all of the shifter lights turn red.
Service shifter light came on when I started my vehicle. I understand it is a very common problem with the newer Jeep Cherokee. It was suggested I file a formal complaint so we can get a recall. Pretty much every Cherokee has this problem before 50000 miles.
Service shifter light has come on multiple times since 36,000. Vehicle now has 75,000 and still an issue. It will go months w/O coming on, or it will come on multiple times I one day. Happens in cold, hot, wet and dry weather. Very random. Shut vehicle off and restart and it goes away, temporarily.

A message appears stating to 'service shifter soon' and all the lights on the shifter light up. The message is reset after a restart. It comes back at random intervals: When first starting, driving on the interstate, etc. It has come about 30 times over the course of 1 year.
I was driving down the highway going 65 miles an hour and all of a sudden all the lights on my gear shift turned red and the car seemed to have stopped running. I was able to get to the side of the rode and put the car in park. A few minutes later I tried to start the vehicle and all kinds of lights came up on my panel as well as the gear shift. Now I have a constant message to service shifter. I googled it and low and behold thousands of people have had the same problem, from 2015 - 2018. Why has there not been a recall? my family was not safe on the highway.
Vehicle bought Dec/2019. 2 months later while driving highway speeds service shifter light came on, pulled vehicle over and waited a few minutes vehicle started back up no light. March 2020, driving in town vehicle decelerated and told to put vehicle in park, all lights came on and service shifter message appeared again. Vehicle started after a little bit and since I was very close to home I parked it in the driveway. Called a certified dealer to discuss issue. Replaced shift bezel and wiring harness. Didn't solve the issue. Couldn't simulate my issue at the dealership diagnostic. Was told if it happens again may need an entire shifter ($1000+). how is something so serious, that can apply your emergency brake while at driving speed, or decelerate you when in a dangerous situation not be recalled" how many complaints have been filed" this is not right.
My 2017 Jeep latitude has 43K. While driving to work, 60 mph, all the lights came on next to the shifter and "service shifter" message came on. What is the cause of this" I have been reading that many people have had this happen. When I shut car off and turned on again, it did not come back on. But, from what I read, dealers are saying it just needs to be "reset." Is this a safety issue" help.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 25 mph and making a left turn, the vehicle ceased with the service shifter warning message illuminated. The driver pulled to the side of the roadway. After approximately an hour, the vehicle restarted and the driver drove to the residence. The vehicle was taken to homer skelton Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram located at 7661 us-51, millington, tn 38053, (901) 872-0195, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that an unknown computer needed to be reset. The computer was reset however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 37,000.
The service shifter light was coming on. All the lights on the gear shift were lit up. And the emergency brake kept applying on its own. This happened several times over the course of time. I took it to the dealership and it cost me almost $400 to replace the bezel and wiring harness. The service tech at the dealership said we were lucky that the emergency brake didn't apply while going at higher speeds.
Was driving and in motion when I heard a ding and the "service shifter" alert came on, and all of the gears had the red light on. I have owned the vehicle for 9 months and have never had an electrical issue before. It is not due for an oil change or any other maintenance service. It is at 47,000 miles and when I called the dealership, they said this happens very frequently but is not covered under warranty, and that I would need to replace the shifter and shifter harness. I am very upset and disappointed with Jeep that this is a life-threatening issue, and it happens "frequently." Please investigate this issue as this is not fair to owners who are now at risk when traveling.
Service shifter appeared while driving within city and illuminated gear shift column in red. Pulled over to park and turned off vehicle. Restarted and service shifter did not remain.
When I start my car, service shifter comes on and all my lights on the panel. I have to turn my car off, open my door to reset. It takes a few tries for the car to reset. Also, my car bumps forward while driving. Happens frequently. I have taken this in several times to the dealership by this never fixes the issue. This has been an issue since I bought the car in December of 2016. Another issue is that my car just dies while I am driving. Battery is fine. After several attempts and pushing the gas pedal down, the car will start again after resting for 10minutes. Dealership always says its the oil, but I have 2 months still to go for oil change and over 2,000 miles til my next change. Oil life is over 50%. everytime I take it in for this it works for a few months and then the issue happens again.
Service shiftier message appears on display about every 50 miles. Disappears when engine is shut off and restarted. Had repaired at Jeep dealer. Problem has reappeared again.
Shifter service warning on dash. Upon start up the dash message center occasionally shows "shifter service" and all of the selector lights on the console are lit. You cannot shift into drive. You must stop the engine and restart in order to proceed. This occurs on start up and occasionally only.
