While driving the service shifter lights comes on and I would have to stop and turn the engine off then on for it to return to normal. It started infrequently and now it happens few times a day. The dealer claims they never heard of this issue while an online search reveals that lot of owners are facing this exact situation.
Every 3000 mile I do my vehicle maintenance which requires me to do my (oil change) July, 2020 on August 2 2020 I heard something while driving on a uphill I pull over I check everything seem ok when I got home I check my oil stick and realize I was in need of about a quart of oil I went to the place I had oil change done and added a half quart of oil (manufactured recommended) on August 15,2020 I was driving an heard a bang like I hit or ran over something all of sudden my vehicle dash board lights came on a my car shut off a passing vehicle inform me all my oil was coming out, I had the vehicle tow home the tow driver inform me the oil pan was crack I inspected and remove the oil pan and realized the problem was a manufacturer problem the crack was course from the inside out and the engine oil component was crack as it was with the timing belt, I only have 26,500 miles my phone number is +[xxx] thank you in advance information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
When I turn on my car, I receive the message "service shifter" and all lights turn red on the gears. The car currently has 29,860 miles and am told it is not covered under warranty.
When shifting out of park, a service shifter warning comes on, all of the shifter indicators light red. Returning the car to park, and restarting normally clears the warning, but it will return.

2017 with 34K on it and on a minimum of 2 hands I have had the error service shifter come up. After car is turned off, it will go away for no specific amount of time and then eventually pop back up either while driving or first start up of the day.
The car after a certain number of miles the service shifter message comes on and all the lights for the shifter are solid red. I took it to the dealer and they said it was a computer update and that was it. It's kept happening ever since 15000 miles.
I had just got off the interstate and was going down the exit ramp at approximately 40mph when srvc 4WD indicator light came up on the dash. I drove home which was approximately 15 miles away. I parked at the house, turned the Jeep off. Waited a couple minutes and turned it back on to see if the light went out. It did not. It was about 8pm and the dealerships were closed so I planned on making the phone call the next morning to have it checked as I had just received a rrecall about my ptu/splines/diff anyways that also needed to be checked. About 15 minutes later I went outside to move my lawnmower and noticed a huge puddle of dark grey grease on the concrete behind my Jeep.
3 months after I purchased my Jeep it shifts terribly. It does not do it 100% of the time though. It gets stuck in gears when shifting then revs to high rpms or jenks forward. Often times it feels like you get rear ended it jerks so bad. I have had it in the shop a few times, and most mechanics say it is normal. I am afraid it will jerk forward and I will run into someone one of these days. It is worse in stop and go traffic, hot days when A/C is running, etc. It does not perform any differently when vehicle is warmed up. It slips gears at both high speed and low speed, making a loud noise and abrupt motion forward.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while stopped at a stop sign. The service shift light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle and the light disappeared. The contact scheduled an appointment with upstate auto service & body works (469 broadway, saranac lake, NY 12983 518-891-1211). The contact was informed that the pin tension in the shifter needed to be reset and securely attached to the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The failure mileage was 59,900.
On a recurring basis, the dashboard lights up with a "service shifter now" message and all lights on the gear shift are illuminated. After a restart, the lights go away and the car resumes normal functionality. This has happened multiple times over the past 6-8 months.
While driving 40 -50 mph on highway 89 in flagstaff, AZ I noticed a dash message stating that the speed was too high to shift into 4 wheel low, about a minute later I noticed a dash message that stated the differential lock could not occur and I noticed that the 4 wheel low button was flashing red. A minute later dash message 4 wheel low was canceled and the 4 wheel low light stopped flashing. I stopped at about 3 lights about 1 mile apart. On the 3rd light I had to turn left and merge into oncoming traffic before entering interstate 40. As I began to accelerate the transmission bucked several times and then as I moved in front of on coming traffic the drive system disengaged and the engine revved. There was no dash message nor were there any trans axle lights flashing. As I coasted to a stop traffic was piling up behind me. I placed the the transmission into neutral and then back into drive, but it did not engage. As I was almost stopped, I hit the brakes and stopped, then turned the engine off and placed the transmission into park. I then restarted the engine and it shut off, so I started it again and placed the transmission into drive and it engaged. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated there was nothing they noticed or could do. Although I did not think I had pressed the 4 wheel low button, I considered that I may have inadvertently, so after leaving the dealership I tested to see if I could create the same condition and I could not. I also noticed that the buttons for the trans axle were not easy to push inadvertently. Also, when pushed the lights on the buttons would flash yellow and not red. This transmission has been slow to engage and buck at times since new. It also goes into neutral when trying to downshift before shifting to a lower gear on down slopes. I am worried that it could be dangerous if this condition occurs again at the wrong time.
I have a service shifter warning that periodically appears. This car has 145000 highway miles driven for sales job. It began last year in 2019 when the vehicle had around 90000 miles and appears both when I start the vehicle and also while driving the vehicle
Service shifter light comes on and all selections light up. This happened S while driving and then can't be reset until car is shut off. The code blocks the instrument panel.
The lights on the gear shift all came on (P, R, N, D) and on my dashboard instrument panel it said "service shifter". I shut the car down and restarted, which corrected the issue temporarily. However it has now happened 3 times in the last week. It happened twice when the vehicle was stationary and once when it was moving on a city street.
Bought this 2017 Jeep new with 23 miles on it. Within a year the service shifter light started coming on. All the lights on the shifter aluminate. There is a constant warning on the dash that can't be cleared until it is shut off and restarted. Restart would clear the light. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer multiple times and they could not duplicate the problem M it has since gotten worse and happens every time the vehicle is put in reverse. Of course it is out of warranty now but this is a common issue and has multiple complaints on multiple threads. This can eventually lead to random power loss issues while the vehicle is in operation. This is a severe safety issue and needs a recall.
Getting a service shifter message and the lights next to my gear shift all turn red. I checked online and it seems to be a Jeep Cherokee only issue and a lot of people who brought it in to the dealer for repair either got their car back without the issue being resolved or the dealer didn't know how to resolve it or the car came back in worse condition than before. This is clearly a Jeep Cherokee manufacturing fault that needs to be resolved with a recall.
