This started a year after purchasing the car. Just shy of 13,000 miles the thermostat failed on my 16 Cherrokee 2.4L engine. The dealership I bought the car from failed to properly diagnose the problem and sent me on my way after replacing a spark plug and coil in the #4 cylinder and refilling coolant. The next day it was clear the car wasn't fixed and brought it to a different dealership where they found the thermostat had failed. I was living in NY and this resulted in the car being out for over 30 days, which qualifies as a lemon under the NY lemon law. They had to rebuild the #4 cylinder due to this failure but that wasn't it. I had to bring the car back weekly for a few weeks due to constant leaks and problems following. This wouldn't be all though.
Fast forward to 2021 and I now live in KY and still have this same engine and at 60,000 miles the engine blows and I have to have the car towed to a dealership. Turns out the gasket blew in the rebuilt #4 cylinder. Upon a deep inspection coolant was getting into the cylinder from a cracked block. Turns out the block cracked from the original thermostat failure and I had been driving all these years with a severely damaged engine. The dealership that repaired the engine saw the damaged block and never notified me about it. There was evidence they had tried to repair the block and opted to put me in danger instead of properly repairing the car, which was a brand new engine. I now have a brand new engine in the car but I have had out of pocket costs cause Jeep refused to fully compensate me or pay out the first time in the NY lemon law.
