My Jeep is high mileage because I commute a long distance for work thus I'm at over 100,000 kms with it only being 4 years old. I'm the only owner, I've never off-roaded and have ensured the maintenance is kept up to date. I noticed there was oil on my driveway the other day and lifted it up to take a look. There's a noticeable crack running the full way around the rear differential. I'm now trying to figure out what my solution is and if this will occur again if I fix it or if it's not worth it to fix and to move on from Jeep.

cracked rear transfer case cracked rear transfer case cracked rear transfer case

My Jeep is high mileage because I commute a long distance for work. I am the original owner and have babied this vehicle, regular maintenance at the dealership, almost all freeway miles, no off-roading. Driving home from work one evening, my "SVC 4WD" light came on. I noticed nothing out of the ordinary and was only about 2 minutes from home. When I pulled in and looked at my car, I noticed oil under the rear of the vehicle. I put it up on ramps and saw that my rear differential module casing was cracked completely circumfrential around the gears.

Took it to the dealer, said they have never seen anything like it. Posted to a group online, and immediately 4-5 others said the same thing had happened to them. I'm being quoted $2700 for the repairs because I am just out of warranty (only 3 years old, but > 100,000 miles). Hopefully I can call Customer Care and convince them to help me out.

I bought this Jeep for reliability, I didn't expect such a vital component to go so quickly and suddenly!

Cherokee Trailhawk Sport V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,260 miles

I had the transmission replaced in July/August 2015 (6000 miles). Reoccuring transmission issues that they couldn't diagnose and/or address due to the inability to "get a code" or recreate the issues. February 21, 2016 I was back in dealer due to failure of remote start and svc engine light which was taken care of with multiple updates and now I take it in March 4, 2016, (approximately 10300 miles) due to SCV Engine light and notice that 4X4 is unavailable. I'm told it's a cracked transfer case. It'll take about 5 days to get the part and replace. These jeeps are junk and have so many issues that they're completely unreliable.
