The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 60 mph, the sun roof exploded outward. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to rick hendricks collision center (located on 1535 savannah hwy charleston, SC 29407), but was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.
I was driving on interstate 25 North of denver, co. It had rained about 20 minutes before but was clear at the time of the incident. I had the fabric visor open to the midsection of the dual pane panoramic sunroof. The sunroof was closed. I passed under another highway and heard what sounded like a gunshot and the glass from the sunroof exploded all over me. I was able to keep the vehicle in control and pulled onto the shoulder. There was no indication of anything hitting the glass or the car. Law enforcement were called and they were unable to find any reason for the glass to shatter.
