CarComplaints.com Notes: There's no way around it, the Cherokee's transmission is junk. There's no other explanation for why a vehicle, usually with under 40,000 miles, would have so many complaints

Very dangerous situation with steering wheel locking up, intermittently and without warning, while in a turning situation. Power steering completely off, and no hard turning capability, such as power steering difficulties. Totally unexpected failure to steer in a turn, acceleration and braking still operable. Have had 2 dangerous failures while turning onto a highway, and while turning into a parking lot.
After turning motor off and waiting about a minute, steering un-locks when re-started. This should tell Jeep mechanics something, but it does not show up on any computer. Being intermittent and sudden, without warning, is an extremely dangerous situation, as has been also stated to me by the Jeep agency where I brought this vehicle for analysis.
With only 29,000 miles, I expected this vehicle to be my primary vehicle forever. But now, with no more active warrant in place, it is 7 years old, and Jeep refuses to recognize this as a Jeep liability. An accident involving this situation is un-warranted and would be my own insurance liability, knowingly driving a vehicle such as this, that could suddenly cause a serious and un-avoidable accident in any traffic situation.
I am not in a great position to simply re-place this vehicle, with another late model vehicle. But, in spite of family Jeep tradition, I would never buy another Jeep. Any information that may be of help would be appreciated.
