CarComplaints.com Notes: There's no way around it, the Cherokee's transmission is junk. There's no other explanation for why a vehicle, usually with under 40,000 miles, would have so many complaints

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude and today all of the lights were on on my shifter, it also was propelling it self forward while I had the break down it did three times while in the middle of the highway. Yesterday I submitted a different complaint about the power train acting up. Today the power train began to act up again while in the highway. It wasn't shifting and felt as if it was driving in neutral but at a very low speed while the RPM moved up and the speed didn't move at all. This is a serious safety concern especially considering that I am not the only one having issues.
Service transmission light came on while driving and lost power to the engine. Could not accelerate. Had to pull the car off the road. Will not reset itself. The car is undriveable. 2014 Jeep Cherokee
I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee with 71K miles. For more than 6 months I have noticed that the car takes a lot of effort to speed, and when it does the RPM is so high and it feels that the engine is going to burn out. It is like the gears are stucked. I took it to the dealer and they said that everything was good, except my engine mounts. I changed that; however, the problems continues. 5 days ago I had the service shifter message come up on my screen. It highlighted all my gears lights red and the screen was locked to service shifter. They said that everything was fine, but obviously the car have some issues with the transmission.
Transmission slips, causing excessive rpms, abrupt and jolting shifts, and sudden variations in rpms. This has been an issue with the vehicle for several years. Have tired multiple times going to dealer to have the issue solved, but have only been given new updates which have failed to solve the problem.
My problem started about two weeks ago when I went to put my car into reverse from park after having just started it and it drove forward instead of backwards. I had to put it back into park then back into reverse before it would go backwards (no I was not on a hill I was flat, the car was acting as though it was in drive instead of reverse). Then it progressed to I went to change from park to drive and the engine just reved when the gas was pressed (acting as though it was in neutral) and I yet again had to put it back into park and turn it off to get it to go into the right gear. Then it progressed to my battery not working properly and my car not wanting to start up right away. And it got even worse to the point my car now says I need service on the shifter. I have had this car for 9 months and I drive it 10 miles a day (to and from work combined) 5 days a week and hardly ever anymore than that. I had never had any problems with it before this week and now all these problems are popping up at once.
My Jeep will jump forward uncontrollably while moving between 9-13 mph. When it happens, it sounds like a bomb going off in the transmission slamming gears down. This happens regularly and can not be controlled. Often times this will happen with the shift lights are all red and you can not tell what gear you are in. I've had this shift module replaced multiple times and on the way home from the dealer will jump again.
Ok I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee limited with front wheel drive. Only has under 54000 miles on it I am experiencing transmission problems especially in reverse it's extremely loud and rumbles constant while in reverse. Also while in drive once moveing it bucks but eventually starts to go away after a lil while. But I also loose power I'll have to put the pedal to the floor the accelerator and I move extremely slowly then it will eventually kick in and have a very hard time going up large hills all hills really and it struggles to get up it like has a lot of lack of power I've put my Jeep in the shop numerous times and have had major work done to it. One of them that was costly was the car would not read that it was in park so I couldn't shut the car off I love the Jeep product but I hate this one it needs to be recalled. Thanks
My horn will not work at all nor the cruise control is not working at all as well. So is all of the controls on the steering wheel. Also a low headlight went out and I may have a stuck clutch problem as well. I need all of this for my safety, my passengers, and my vehicle safely as well. I am requesting a recall so these matters can be straighten out as soon as possible. I don't know what's going to happen the next day, but I need these situations fixed as much as I can.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle accelerated on its own. The contact stated that the failure also occurred when the vehicle was parked. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 18V332000 (electrical system, vehicle speed control). The contact stated that the engine check warning indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and landmark Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (located at 1900 S noland rd, independence, mo 64055, (816) 836-0100) where it was waiting to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,399.
My vehicle was engaged in active use of cruise control, I had brand new tires, and something happened to the vehicle to where it caused an unsafe push of acceleration and the car lost traction on the road. The vehicle ended up rolling 125 feet off a small drop into a river. None of the airbags deployed despite having 13 points of impact. I had to extricate myself from the submerging vehicle. I the roads were paved with gravel on either side. I was traveling at 55mph, and following the curve of the road.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate over 20 mph. An independent mechanic stated that while running a test, a code came up indicating that the accelerator pedal assembly malfunctioned. The contact called breeden Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (5900 us-71 bus, fort smith, ar 72908 (479) 646-473) and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in any recalls. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 56,444.
While accelerating on the highway, my vehicle engaged in to park. My vehicle wouldn't do anything but slow down to a roll. I was able to brake, but the vehicle became idle.
Purchased used November of 2017. Has a little over 55,000 miles on it. Have noticed that the transmission seems to take longer than it should to shift and sometimes doesn't shift up at all or will shift down or even to neutral sometimes while driving at higher speeds. Also will lose power and then sometimes use a lot of power when not needed, causing the car to jerk or accelerate out of nowhere. Happens very often and has been continually getting worse since I've purchased it. But severely noticed it on my last road trip about 6 weeks ago.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission gears slipped without warning when the vehicle was started. While the vehicle was idling at a stop, a warning indicator near the gear box indicated that the gear was shifted when it really was not. In addition, the vehicle randomly stalled several times intermittently. The contact was uncertain if the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000 (power train). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
I was driving on the highway and my check engine, transmission and park lights started flashing. My car wouldn't accelerate and my computer said 'service transmission'. now my car won't shift gears or accelerate. It has 40K miles on it.
While driving on a 4 lane highway at 65 mph the vehicle partially lost power and would not accelerate, up shift, or ownshift, the brake lights started flashing, along with many other lights on the dash including check engine. I pulled over to the side of the highway and shut off the Jeep. I waited a minute then started it back up. The service parking brake message was on the message center, the odometer is blinking, and 4WD is temporarily unavailable. I had it looked at by a mechanic and they showed me the park brake module had water intrusion and was very much corroded.
After transmission recall repair, engine replaced due transmission recall repair 3rd time, vehicle idles rough when in neutral, check engine light came on and Jeep died. The vehicle started after a moment and the check engine light went off. Still having same issues after transmission repaired and a new engine due to the dealership resetting the computer instead of repairing the transmission. So new engine and repaired transmission, still having issues. Constant issue with the Jeep idling roughly, sometimes not starting or stalling in traffic on the highway and city streets.
The car stalls when pressing on the gas then jolts into gear making it feel and sound like I've been hit from behind, it is slow to accelerate at times and other times it accelerates extremely faster when I lightly push the gas, it will also decelerate at times when trying to accelerate, the electrical will flash all the signals and tell me to service the transmission after I fill my tank mostly and the car will shut off when I stop at a light and jerk until input it in park and turn it off while sitting in traffic. The controls to the lift gate do not always work when pressed inside of the vehicle. The check engine light is constantly on when I took it to the dealer the diagnostic said it was a sensor and valve but the dealer kept the car for a week and only changed the oil which was not needed and shut the light off only for it to come back on one day after I had to demand they fix my car or give it back because they were just holding it on the lot, the suspension and shocks are off they keep wearing my tires and the button for the shift gear fell off while I was attempting to put the car in gear which is an obvious defect
