October 19, 2017 originally we had keep the car in the garage and rarely drove it until this past summer when we took a planned road trip to western national parks we had never seen. We had the car checked at the dealership prior to the trip and no issues were brought up. The car had less than 25,000 miles then during the trip we noticed issues with the transmission and brakes. We took the car to a Jeep dealership and told it would get us home. We turned the car into the Tacoma Jeep dealership @ 30,000 miles and determined that the warranty took care of the transmission we were given a rental car and the repairs took over a month. Today I drove our 2014 Jeep Cherokee for the first time since my wife brought it home from the dealership after a transmission replacement due to defective design. I drove to the post office and returned. The transmission is still acting like it has a mind of its own, but during the return trip while in an intersection making a left turn to the hy 16 on ramp. The car acted like the engine had died, (absolutely no response from the transmission) for about 7 seconds and seemed like an eternity, trying to determine what to do with oncoming traffic. The transmission finally engaged and I was able to clear the intersection. This brings the cars reliability and safety into sever question. This incident also brings into question wither a repair was made to the design of the transmission had been accomplished if any. I also noticed on inspection while the vehicle was running from outside of the engine compartment that what sounds like an exhaust leek and a higher noise level than when the fairly new car (30,000 miles)was turned in for repair.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the gear shifter indicator illuminated and the emergency brake engaged independently. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the tied wire harness was hanging from the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to get a rental vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. The VIN was not available. Consumer stated complete gear shift failure, entire shift column would light up and car emergency brake would engage. Updated 7/27/18
Jeep Cherokee shut down in the middle of driving downtown atlanta Georgia. The engine turned off in traffic and was unable to start. After second attempt car turned on and service code "service transmission" "service emergency brake". vehicle had to be towed to dealership. 2014 Jeep Cherokee trail hawk with 32K miles.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While accelerating from a stop sign, the vehicle shifted into first gear. The vehicle felt as if it were in neutral and hesitated between gears. In addition, the vehicle launched forward. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to tasca automotive group (1300 Pontiac ave, cranston, ri 02920, phone number: (800) 788-2114), but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to paul bailey's Chrysler (425 ten rod rd, North kingstown, ri 02852, phone number: (401) 884-1900) where it was diagnosed that the power train failed. The transmission module was reprogrammed, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was burning oil and blue smoke appeared from the tail pipe. The vehicle was taken back to paul bailey's Chrysler dealer where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs had carbon build up, the oil level was low, and the oil pressure sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 40 mph, the transmission and traction warning indicators illuminated, and the vehicle lost all acceleration. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road to a complete stop. The vehicle was restarted and rolled backwards, as if it engaged in reverse and then jerked into gear. The vehicle was driven to a destination and, while attempting to park, the emergency brake engaged on its own. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer (faricy Chrysler/Jeep in Colorado springs, Colorado) to be repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000 (power train). The contact was informed that the parts were not available, but it was not important. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

The 9 speed auto trans is dangerous, sometimes it is does not respond to the gas pedal and also it lunges at red lights just before a complete stop after I take my foot off the gas. This happens on a daily basis, below it only gives me one choice but it happens every time I drive it. I have had it in to warwick Jeep on rt. 94 in warwick NY where I bought it more than 4X to fix the problem and within a day or two it just comes back. Very unsafe!
Bought this car 12/1/16 and purchased best optioned warranty. Car is stalling and locking up steering. 5X in last 3 days. Mil light, etc light coming on. After turning engine off and on, car will drive fine other than transmission is jerky. Seems like there is a dead spot when trying to accelerate. I put premium gas in this car. There is something definitely wrong with the computer language between fuel intake and transmission shifting gears. Bringing it to naples Dodge tmrw for service and hopefully will be under warranty.
After taking Jeep in 2 weeks ago to fix the problem of Jeep coming out of gear while driving is back. Dealer says it's fixed but problem came back in 12 days. Happens while driving. Jeep went out of gear and transmission seized up on the way to dealer last time. This happened on a one lane road in rush hour. Had to call 911 and a tow truck.
While driving in snowy conditions East on hwy 80 near truckee ca. The vehicle lost forward drive and the engine on its own sped up and down from 4000 RPM to redline for several seconds and then returned to normal operation. We were almost hit from the rear due to rapid deceleration. A few miles later the same thing happened with the exception forward control did not return and we were forced to the side of the highway cutting dangerously close in front of a semi truck, our location on the side of the road was not safe! after turning the engine off and back on we were able to drive away only to experience the condition again and were forced to coast off the highway onto a gravel turnout. The car at that point would not shift into any drive gear and we were towed into reno nv were the next day a "software" update was performed and we started our drive home only to loose forward motion once again and force to the shoulder of the narrow mountain highway. Restarting the engine cleared the issue and we drove home and then the next week took it to our local auburn ca. Dealer to be repaired. The dealer kept the car 4 days and returned it after a "software" update. In the less that 20 mile drive home the car lost forward momentum two times and the engine sped up and down again like before, also making grinding a thumping noise. We were able to limp home and had the car towed back to the dealer in auburn. We are waiting to hear from them as it is the weekend. I am afraid for our safety on the highway now driving this car!
I had been driving my vehicle on side roads at a speed of approximately 25 mph after having dropped my daughter off at school when all of the sudden out of no where the transmission service came onto my screen on the dash and my Jeep lost power and the brakes locked up and said that I need to service the transmission. Multiple vehicle warning systems started sounding include "check transmission", "put vehicle in park, then select gear", accompanied by warning chimes, the engine light, etc. Vehicle switched gears and was difficult to drive. I will be bringing vehicle to dealership but see from reviewing on-line that this has occurred numerous times with the Jeep Cherokee (2014).
Accelerating from a stop, the vehicle will either rev up and drop really hard into the second gear or I will apply the gas pedal which will not accelerate the vehicle very quickly as it should (almost like a drowning out feeling). I have also had issues with it not shifting at all and the vehicle will stick into gear in which I have had to drive at 6000 RPM for an extended period of time.
My wife's 2014 Jeep Cherokee has 40K miles on it and about a month ago she took it in for service because it started shuddering/vibrating and then shut-off/stalled on her and displayed 'service transmission'. we had it towed to a local dealer here in va and they said it was software recalls that addressed this issue. We took it back 2 more times to this same dealership and they second time they said conveniently that another software fix had come out to fix the issue but we had to pay for it regardless of having the extended warranty because as the service tech put it 'things break'. the third time they told my wife it was her fault for 'over filling the gas tank while pumping' since the issues seem to happen without fail every time she has filled the car up to a full tank since the first issue. Now we are taking it to another dealer for the same issue (4th time no fix).
I was making a right turn and stopped for a few seconds, and the car suddenly shut down on me - service transmission message came on. Took it to arrigo Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram sawgrass in tamarac, fl and was told all my car needed was a 'software' update and it had been checked and passed all tests. They assured me the car had no issues and was safe to drive. I drove the car and within 2 weeks the car did the same thing, while I was at a stop sign. Took the car back in and they told me there was nothing wrong with the car. Safe to drive, they reset it. The car didn't have any 'codes' saved. Which the service person told me, yes I know its malfunctioning but it the codes don't save we can't do anything. This makes the car even more dangerous last Thursday I was driving on I95 at 80mphs and the car started to jerk and shake and within seconds the car abruptly stopped in the middle of the highway! I almost got rear ended by two cars also driving at high speeds. I could have easily died in that car if someone was to crash into me then. Took the car back to Jeep and they told me there was a code for the transmission module to be replaced. The technician supposedly drove the car for 100 miles and nothing happen to him. I told them that there is enough information online to know that the transmission in these cars are not safe and are malfunctioning. They know about this, they know what the issue is and they still tell me that the car is safe to drive! I told them to be honest and based on what had happened to me, if what they fixed made sense to solve the issue, they said yes. To not worry about it. Picked the car up on Saturday, Sunday night the car started jerking and suddenly shutdown while I was driving in the middle of the road, again, almost caused a car accident. It jerks and shuts down so abruptly that my neck hurts from the slamming and whiplash.
Jeep is not shifting properly when driving. When driving shifts to neutral and warning lights come on. Comes to stop in traffic.when you get it started again it shifts hard. Warning lights for engine and traction control on dash.
On September 5th, 2017 as I was driving (in motion) on a busy highway, I lost all acceleration power, my check engine light came on, and 'service transmission' showed on the display. I was able to pull over and I restarted my vehicle and was able to get home. Once there, I called the dealership and scheduled an appointment for the following week. I mentioned, while making the appointment, that the light and 'service transmission' display had gone off upon restarting my vehicle. They assured me that a fault would still be logged and to bring it in. After arriving at my appointment, the service technician pulled the logged code (P072900 (99 - house tech) a), said he has never seen that fault, and because it was no longer active they couldn't help me. There was no explanation of the code, no explanation of possible causes for the code to log, no examination of my vehicle, no recommendations for if it were to happen again.
The transmission is exhibiting numerous symptoms of failure including abrupt and harsh shifts. It also went into a mode where the vehicle would not enter drive or reverse with many error and warning messages and lights. There were saved error codes that the dealer erased prior to troubleshooting, and the error codes did not regenerate. During this recent failure, I was stopped in the middle of the street and unable to move forwards or backwards. Turning off the ignition and then restarting the engine allowed the vehicle to be backed off the street albeit with most of the warning indicators and error messages still active/
