I have owned the 2014 Jeep Trailhawk for about 11 months. Purchased it new as a left over model in 2015. I had 21,951 miles on the vehicle when I had to have front brake pads and rotors replaced. The dealership was some how able to cover this under the warranty, because I refused to accept that brake pads and rotors can go on a vehicle that I drive 90% highway miles to commute to work. I was told the problem was " I lived on an Island", which caused rust to accumulate on the pads and rotors and wore down the brakes.
I have owned several new vehicles while I have lived on this Island over 30 years , and have never had to have brakes replaced before 40,000 miles. I have also been told they don't think my back brake have too much more life in them as they have the same issue. I have never had to replace back brakes in any new car I have owned before I traded them in . (usually about every 3 to 4 years). The dealership has clearly told me this will not be covered under warranty as with any other issue I may have with the brake pads and rotors. So it looks like I will need brake pads and rotors replaced every year I own this Jeep.
I feel Jeep has used sub standard materials in their pads and rotors that would allow them to rust up and need replacing because you live near salt water. I have never driven the vehicle in flooded areas where the brakes would be soaked in salt water. This problem kind of take the ruggedness out of the Jeep name. That being said this will be my last Jeep or Chrysler product I ever own.
