This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 it has 116,000 miles on it. I have a problem with my fan just stopping and the engine overheating. I have a the fan relay replaced 3 times in the last 3 years and the fan replaced one time. I did not receive and recall on this matter.
Vehicle began to vibrate violently followed by a loud bang. There was smoke coming from the engine compartment. After shutting down the engine I found the plastic fan blades from the electric cooling fan had broken apart and were jammed into the fan pulley. I understand that there is a recall for the 2000 Grand Cherokee model for the same problem. Why is it limited to that model when evidently it is happening to other 2000 model Jeep such as mine a 2000 Jeep Cherokee classic. The recall for the other model is virtually the same problem that I have experienced. Why the limit ?
Safety recall F-25 electric radiator fan* October 05 the electric fan in the consumer 's 2000 Jeep Cherokee broke and punctured an hole in the vehicle's radiator. November 06 the consumer received recall notice for the electric fan. The consumer contacted the manufacturer and informed them that the fan had already been replaced. The manufacturer agreed to reimburse the consumer for the repair cost, but refused to reimburse him for towing cost, rental car, and missed work.
: the contact stated while driving 5 mph, the front of the vehicle shook. The vehicle was immediately driven home and visually inspected. Upon visual inspection, it was discovered the fan had broken causing the fan cover to fracture. Pieces of the fan lodged in the engine and shroud. There is a recall, NHTSA campaign #06V199000, concerning the fan. The vehicle is not included due the VIN. The manufacturer has been alerted of the problem. Updated 7/14/2006 -
