Late one night on the way home from a night at a friends cabin on a lake, my headlights stopped working. So I stopped, after driving to a safe spot holding in the headlight high beam selector for emergency lights for about 15 mins. I checked all the fuses, with a tester, as well as a visual check, and they were all good, so I checked the relays by switching in some spares I have, and nothing. So I drove the last 20 minutes home holding the signal switch towards me, and went to bed cursing my luck. The next morning, bright and early on a Sunday morning, I tore into the dash, with 2 suspected broken switches in mind, and with brand new replacements next to me.
Now I am a novice mechanic, I can do almost any simple task- u joints, driveshafts ect, but this was a major-league pain in the butt. You have to take the whole dash out, and take the instrument cluster out, after taking the steering wheel off, in order to even see the back of the headlight switch. So I changed it, after cursing the Chrysler gods for putting such a simple part in such a stupid location. And on a good hunch, I also changed the signal light switch, at the same time.
Long story short, mopar/jeep/Chrysler uses very craptacular switches, so go aftermarket, unless you want to spend about 4 hours of your quality time changing switches ever year.
