This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Vehicle: 1995 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0L 6 cylinder engine and 5 speed transmission. Motor mounts on passenger side of engine block have sheared off twice. The first time the bolts sheared while going over a pothole at 25 mph. All three bolts were replaced with grade 8 bolts and the same thing happened again while driving on a flat surface at 20 mph. Each time the engine and transmission shifted to the right and the 3rd 4th 5th and reverse gears could not be used.
Pot hole or speed bump causes Jeep xj/ Cherokee right motor mount engine bolts to snap causing fires and flopping of engine on it's side. My xj has failed 4 times since new many on the web have had the same problems. I found 30 on one site that had identical problems some with fire. Some causing loss of control.
While driving on the highway, I hit a bump and the engine mounts broke. This caused my vehicle to malfunction. The mounts have been broken before by driving over a speed bump.
I was reading code 30126, used motor vehicles. It is not specific about which safety hazards are enforced by the law. I want to know what gives a dealer a right to sell a used vehicle which has a bent and cracked frame and a clean title. No "as is " sale should be a justification for lack of safety regarding human life. He will not refund my money. Is this legal" what are my rights" please advise. Thank you.
While pulling away from a stop sign, felt the motor drop from the mounting brackets.found 3 mounting bracket bolts had broken off on the right side causing the motor to fall down to one side.
