The contact owns a 2000 Jaguar S-type. The contact stated that the timing chain failed on the driver's side of his vehicle while driving 60 mph. He could not maintain control of the vehicle and attempted to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the head needed to be removed. In addition, a couple of bent valves needed replacing at the cost of $4,000. The contact stated that he will call the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 88,000.

I work for a auto shop and have a customer that has a 2000 S-type and has had some issues with it. The first time I saw the car it had a misfire and was making a ticking noise. After pulling the engine apart I found that it needed the time chain tensioners replaced. The next time the car came in it had no acceleration and constantly set the fault code air assisted fuel injection motor fault. After disassembling the engine once again, we found felt packing material in the intake manifold that had clogged the #8 intake port in the cylinder head and we also found that the timing chains and tensioners needed to be replaced again. The felt packing comes from the car and is a danger the engine and the lack of acceleration. This is a danger and can cause an accident.

Comment: My wife has a 2000 jag stype V8 4.0 that we purchased aprox 4 yrs ago, but not from a jag dealer. The connecting rod in the motor went & a few months ago I got a used motor to replace that one & took it all apart & realized that the same thing was wrong with that one also. The #6 cylinders & the #1 were both bad. So I got another used motor & couldn't believe it but the exact same thing was wrong with that one too. I called a friend of mine who owns a repair shop to see if he could get me a deal on a new motor & he said that he just had a jag same year make & model come into the shop with the same exact problem. (now that's 4 motors within 10 min of my house that have this issue.) I started thinking that maybe there was some kind of recall or defect with it. I went to a jag dealer to talk to someone about it, & B/C I didn't purchase the car from a jag dealer I purchase it preowned the dealer said that they couldn't help me & that there is no known engine recalls that they knew of. I really don't know where else to turn, this is my wife's only vehicle, & we just can not afford a brand new motor for this car. Do you have any suggestions or know if there are any recalls or issues with it. I would appreciate any help you can give me. I also searched on the internet & there are a lot of people with the same problem & just don't know what to do. Well, thank you.

Took my 2000 jag S type to dealer on 2 Dec 2005 for recall of engine breather elbow. The engine breather vent tube was replaced. At the same time, I told the dealer that my engine light was on -- they checked it and stated that I needed a fuel intake sensor. On 9 Dec the sensor was replaced. Within a week, the engine light came back on, was advised that the part was probably bad, they ordered a new part and it was installed. Left the lot and the engine light returned. I returned to the lot the next day and they supposedly cleaned all the wires and applied stab lint to the harness. Left lot and the engine light returned. Was then told that it was no longer the fuel temperature, it was a wiring problem and they would need at least 3-hours to trace the wiring that the problem was somewhere between the processor and the sensor. Must remove intake and hardware to access. Not very comfortable with the explanation so I took the car to another import dealer and he stated that it had 2-misfires and the catalytic converter needed replacing and something about odu. I was asked if my car had gone through emission testing and in Feb/Mar 06, my car passed emission testing without any problems. Also the dealer found a Ford new clamp (I have pictures and the clamp) in my vehicle sitting above one of the pistons causing a gap. He thought that this might have been what was causing the problem. Well, it seems that my car is being constantly diagnosed on my $$$. if the problem is not there, I get a bill, pay for it. Lo and behold, the problem still exists and now it is for another reason. Seems like the dealers are trouble shooting on my dime. My car is sick -- it is like it is struggling to get its next breath or that something is blocking the air flow. It sputters at a point. I've only used the highest premium gas in the vehicle. I've been advised to not use this gas and then later advised to use this gas. I'm so frustrated at this point.
