I bought this vehicle late Nov. of 2017 from a dealer in Massachusetts for $4,609.75. The vehicle looked in great shape - clean, no wear & tear inside with relatively low miles for the year. No noticeable rust on the body of the car. I wanted to take it to a mechanic for a look over but was not allowed to take it off the lot. I could not get on the ground to look under the car (bad back issues) to inspect it myself. From what I could see there was some rusting but figured it was normal for the year. I then bought the vehicle and had to have a state inspection completed to register it. They found a few issues but passed the frame on the check list.
It wasn't until March 28th after moving to Ohio that the first hole was detected during a complete brake/rotor repair. I had the hole repaired which cost $525.00. It was mentioned that there may be more holes at any time in the future. Around the end of November 2020 I noticed a crack or separation in the fame driver side rear so had it returned to the mechanic. On Dec. 3, 2020 I received word that there were 4 more areas in the frame that would require repairs costing $1500. It was recommended to not drive it but - if it was necessary - only locally. It was deemed unsafe to drive. It was said it would take a number of years for the steel frame to rust through. My only 'safe' option was to scrap it.
To back up a bit - that vehicle was on the lift in the dealers garage twice to fix a few issues during the state inspection. No one there or at the inspection station mentioned anything about the condition of the rusted frame. It seems to me that in checking off on the frame it was good. I was not told about any extensive or serious rust conditions on the vehicles frame. I would not have bought it otherwise. Vehicles with questionable or compromised frames should not be allowed for sale due to safety. ** Car Forum at Edmunds contains feedback from other Isuzu owners around 2009 with car frame issues like mine. I don't know if there is any recourse since it is 2020.
