Related complaint of ABS failure was filed earlier today. Honda dealership service manager admitted that several passport owners (identical to Rodeo) had requested that antilock brakes be disabled because driver did not like performance. Ford Motor Company salesperson indicated that Isuzu Rodeo has 2 channel antilock brake system whereas GM and Ford use 4 channel antilock. 2 channel is definitely inferior and possibly dangerous because it disables brakes on two sets of wheels during pulsing process whereas 4 channel only pulses individual wheel. Isuzu dealership refused to comment and acted ignorant of details as to operation of antilock brakes. Complained to Isuzu's national customer support center and have had no response. Have seen a tremendous number of complaints in NHTSA's files about Isuzu Rodeo's ABS brakes. My last car was a GMC jimmy and I drove it for 13 years and 240,000 miles. GMC's antilock brakes are much better than Isuzu's. Isuzu's seem susceptible to engage at low speed especially on wet or bumpy surfaces. Requesting a telephone interview... please!!!

Repeated occurrences of antilock braking system taking over control of brakes while braking at low speed. Problem is most pronounced when roads are wet or when traveling over bumpy surface with moderate brake pressure applied. First occurrence was two months after vehicle was purchased while driving on wet roads. Vehicle approached intersection with railroad crossing. Moderate braking pressure caused antilock brakes to take over just as vehicle was bumping over railroad tracks. Vehicle was unable to stop. Luckily, no other vehicle was at intersection at the time. Vehicle ended up completely inside intersection. Driver backed up to behind painted lines and was very startled as to action of braking system. Problem occurred again on wet road at smooth intersection. Assumed oil on roadway was cause of antilock brake engagement and driver reported inability to stop vehicle for unusually long period at low speed. Third incident was while pulling trailer with 2000 lb load. While pulling up to residence, right front tire rolled into gutter with water. Antilock brakes activated and vehicle "slid" forward approximately 10 feet. Vehicle was only traveling about 5mph. Last occurrance involved wet pavement and resulted in antilock brakes engaging at low vehicle speed (approximately 20 mph) while slowing for intersection. Vehicle was unable to stop. Driver tried to avoid accident by changing lane to right but was struck by vehicle on right and was pushed back into original lane. Collision occurred at approximately 10 mph. Vehicle was immediately brought to Isuzu dealership for brake check. Dealer reported tires inflated to 33 lbs instead of 26/28 according to rating on door. Tires rated at 35 lbs max. Dealer acted unaware of any reports of antilock brake problems with other customers, I.e. acted "stupid" especially when told that brake failure resulted in accident. Can duplicate failure repeatedly. Request telephone conversation.

New car, 7days old. Driving up to a stop light. The vehicle slowed, but would not stop. Crashed into car in front of me at 5 to 10 mph. When I was slowing down, I had time to look down to see if my foot was on the pedal (which it was), then with both feet tried to get the vehicle to stop with no luck. Crash! neither airbag was deployed, and no one was hurt.

Everytime the brake is applied and the vehicle hits a bump, the ABS disengages the brake and waits for 1-2 seconds before engages the brake again. This converts to quite a bit of lost braking distance. As drivers, we cannot keep monitoring the surface of the road when applying the brakes. During that 1-2 second window, there is always a sound similar to someone dropping a basketball to a concrete floor from about knee level. As the ball bounces back, it does not travel as high as before; therefore, the frequency of the sound becomes faster until it stops. By the time the sound stops, the brake engages again. I think there is faulty brake mechanism that causes this sound and the ABS failure. I have spoken to the service manager of Isuzu and he mentioned that that is the way ABS works. Please advise.
