I purchased my 2015 QX80 brand new. The vehicle has 157,000 miles on it; however they were mainly highway miles. My daily commute is around 70 miles a day. I performed all the routine maintenance on the vehicle. Tune-up’s, oil changes, brakes, etc. The only thing that I couldn’t check was the transmission fluid. These vehicles have what is called a CVT transmission, which are sealed, with no dipstick to check fluids. The day of the incident, I was driving my son-in-law to work. Shortly after getting off the expressway, it felt a hesitation with the vehicle. The thing I know was smoke coming from underneath the vehicle. I was able to pull over, and observed what appeared to be all my transmission fluid leaking out. I had the vehicle tolled to my local Infiniti dealership. They told me, that the vehicle had massive internal explosion within the transmission. The cost would be around $10,000 for a new one. I found a transmission shop, that could put a rebuilt one for $6,700. If your looking for a high end dependable luxury vehicle, keep looking!
