This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The torque converter & transmission fluid pump are known to be defective in this transmission, the F5A51 Mitsubishi/Hyundai transmission. Mine started going out recently, at 75K miles! this problem/defect is also very well known to Hyundai/Kia/Mitsubishi and they choose to ignore the issue & instead try to blame the owners & claim that we've been neglectful or abusive to the transmission which is simply not the case. I'll say that again, Hyundai & Mitsubishi know of the manufacturing defects in these parts as well as defects with the crankshaft in the engine but choose to ignore it and claim that they are not responsible for these problems. There are known defects throughout the whole car, luckily mine is only having issues with those two parts in the transmission so far. Please help all of the other owners of the vehicles that have that transmission & engine with even greater problems than my own.
