Driving 65mp, oil light started to glow but not on fully (It was full of oil-not low at the time). Then the check engine light lit, the oil light got brighter and the power steering cut out. When I describe it, people say the car must have stalled but I did not think it had stalled while driving it. Was able to get it to the side of the road and have it towed in.
Mechanic said it now has a loud clonking noise indicative of a broken rod so it is in need of a new engine. It had a lot of miles on it but had been running well. I'd had new ball bearings put on the rear axle a week earlier. I was lucky that there was very little traffic on I-81 at the time. The mechanic turned it on to show me the clonking noise-it was bad. I'd never heard it before. I was very lucky to have been driving when there was little traffic on the highway-it could have been catastrophic.
