Veloster Re-flex 1.6L 4 cyl

I noticed in July of last year my oil levels were getting low and I found myself having to get topped off more than once between oil changes. Express told me that most people have problems with Hyundai engines, because they burn oil really fast/bad. I had given my son a Hyundai Sonata and the engine stalled while he was on the interstate. I also kept receiving recall notices stating there was a recall on my Veloster. So I called the dealership in October and talked to Billy at Jim Burke Hyundai and told him what my issue was and he took my information he told me that due to so many cars being affected I would have to leave my car possibly over a month.

I needed transportation so I bought a truck on 10/20/2022 and dropped off my Veloster expecting it to be gone a month or so to have repaired and the recall addressed. On 10/21/22 I received a call from Billy saying he found no issues with my car and to come pick it up, I agreed to have an oil change at the dealership. He told me in order for the recall to cover the repairs my engine would have to stall out and that i just need to stop putting oil in the car. After buying the truck I let my daughter drive the car and she had to get topped off every two weeks. Express Oil knows my family by our faces now!

On 06/02/22 I took my car back to express and they told me that my engine oil was running dark and I should really be concerned and should demand assistance from the dealership. I took the car in because it had been sitting for a couple of months and I wanted to drive the car to get my truck serviced. So I called the dealership again and Billy tells me again that I had to lock up my engine for it to be covered under the recall and that he could price me an engine to replace the one in my car. I told him I would call corporate. I reached out to them and they said that they would have a claims manager call me in 72 hours. They called me today on 6/3 and they told me my car was not covered under the recall. I asked why would they send me the recall cards, they said they send them to everyone. I then asked my the service guy was telling me to lock up my engine to have it covered? They had no explanation except maybe he was saying it because you needed to get a new engine.

My concern is why had the dealership lead me to think my car fell under the recall and why would they send me information about a recall if it did not affect my car and what if I had allowed my engine to lock like they told me to do? I HATE HYUNDAI - THEY WILL NEVER GET MY BUSINESS AGAIN!!

Veloster 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Dealer did all oil changes and advertise Engine for Life, but only if every known service down to cabin filters, are done by dealer. No leaks no smoking, no low oil pressure light, no check engine light. Just started making noise and engine seized no oil in crankcase. Dealer and corporate won't even discuss it with me. Extremely disappointed, no warning. Now I'm screwed and out $4k. But nothing will be done and Hyundai Corp. ignores the complaint and local dealer wouldn't even answer my email about the problem.
