Car had warning light 'system shifter' problem which means the car could not change gears out of park. Dealership said it was from a rodent that chewed three wires and needed to replace the engine harness, NOT COVERED under any warranty. The estimated cost is $10,000! I am having to use my insurance under the 'act of god and nature' to cover the cost of the repair. You must have comprehensive coverage.
The tech said the soy coating on the wires is what attracts the rodents. Insurance has proposed to only replace the transmission position sensor harness which is much less expensive.
After reading through some of the historical complaints related to cars (including Hyundai) where they have been using soy materials in their wiring more and more, it is extremely frustrating to understand that 1) rodent chewing on these same materials are not covered under warranty and 2) these animals are attracted to this stuff so additional safety steps have to be put in place. My car is brand new (less than 1,500 miles, and bought it with 10 miles) so this is absolutely a pain in the a**.
