I bought my 2019 Hyundai Tucson, just over a year ago in May, and on August 2nd, 2020, when starting my car, I noticed all the lights on my dashboard stayed on. As I started driving, all kinds of warnings and notifications popped up, along with my right headlight and blinker not working. I made an appointment with Hyundai, knowing full well I was covered under the 5 year warranty, and took my car in, having received a Loaner which I knew I would need.
The next day I got a phone call from the Service Advisor stating that my Tucson was damaged to the point of over $7,400, because of the soy-based wiring that rodents are attracted to and chew through. And then he proceeded to tell me that it's NOT covered under the warranty. Bull!!
I was livid at that point. I demanded the number to customer service, who I immediately called after I found out that there is a Class Action Suit pertaining to this exact problem!. After speaking with a Hyundai rep. for about an hour, she escalated this issue. Am now waiting to hear from a case manager from Hyundai to get this resolved. It is unbelievable to me that they would make a vehicle using these defective soy-base materials, knowing full well that this happens. And then try to deny it an make the customer pay.
I have read articles that state that this has been going on with Hyundai since 2010. All to save money and the environment, though causing customers to deal with this absurdity and aggravation. Along with trying to get to get them to pay for repairs. What nerve! Hyundai now knowingly uses these soy-based materials. They are at fault and to blame. NOT the customer!
Update from Aug 19, 2020: My vehicle is still in the service dept. at Hyundai and I am still dealing with the Rodent issue chewing the soy-based wiring, etc. on my 2019 Hyundai Tucson, which is just over a year old. With only 6,500 miles. And Hyundai refuses to pay for damages costing $7,400.00. I have since hired a Lawyer. Waiting on updates.
Update from Aug 22, 2020: It is now Aug. 22nd, 2020 and I have hired a lawyer to represent me because Hyundai claims that this soy-based wiring causing rodents to chew through in my 2019 Hyundai Tucson is NOT covered under the "Bumper-To-Bumper" 5 year warranty. My lawyer and I claim that this in NOT a consumer based maintenance issue. Nor was I ever informed of this soy-based wiring potentially attracting rodents to chew on . Had this been disclosed, I would have taken proper action/precautions to prevent this from happening. Shame on Hyundai for trying to subject customers to this hidden revenue source for them to take advantage of.
