This is situation has occurred twice once in May 2018 and once October 2019. My rear window spontaneously shattered twice while parked in a locked lot. No injury to to the window. The window just shatters and crumbles. There are multiple reports of tempered/tinted Hyundai windows shattering with no accountability from the manufacturer. They are reckless and unsafe, and the dealership did not provide information on best steps in order to protect yourself. They told me to go through insurance, and according to HYUNDAI's consumer affairs they only validate reports that go through the warranty. I have a baby due at change of season and DO NOT feel safe putting a newborn in the back seat near a window that spontaneously explodes.

In May of 2018 my rear window spontaneously shattered. I called the dealership which could not fix it right away. I work in healthcare and could not be without my car, and expressed that to them. I was instructed to then call my insurance as they can get people to your car right immediately. If was fixed through my insurance. In September of 2019 the same window spontaneously shattered. Again called the dealership and was brushed off. I replaced it through insurance again. Looked it up and see numerous reports of Hyundai tinted windows shattering.

I have a baby due in May which has increased my awareness of the major safety concern having a car with windows that spontaneously explode. I called HMF to see how I can get out of my lease, because I do not feel safe. They then suggested I report to their consumer affairs. I did, and the case was denied. They referred me to another round of complaints, which apparently I had to go through my warranty to prove it was manufacturing issues. Had the dealership offered this information I may have prioritized getting the car to them no matter how inconvenient.

This is completely UNSAFE and reports have it happening parked or driving. Appears to happen at change of season (my baby is due right when it happened the first time). In addition HYUNDAI dealership poorly handled this situation and communication placing me with little to stand on and without recourse. I want to get out of this car, and into something I feel safe bringing my baby home in (with COVID-19 and being a healthcare worker, I have enough fear).
